You've probably heard that you're not supposed to pour old medications down the toilet
or drain(排水沟). That's because drugs can get into the water supply and cause problems
for people as well as wildlife.
But you can't just throw medicines or unused prescriptions in the trash either. You don't
want medications-and your private health information-to fall into the wrong hands.
Destroying old medications and then putting them in the trash is the way to go. Here's how:
Dump the medicine out of its container into a plastic bag. You don't want to throw away
medications in their containers because there is a risk that people looking for drugs, as well
as kids or pets, might find them. You can mix different kinds of medicines in the same bag.
Just be sure to use a plastic bag that can be tightly sealed. And then seal up the bag and
throw it away in the regular trash.
Destroy the medications. Add a small amount of water to the bag to dissolve(溶解) the
medications. Then, add something that is not food, like dirt. That way, if the medication mix
falls into the hands of children, they won't be able to eat it.
After you've dealt with the medication following the instructions above, throw the medicine
container in the trash. But before you do that, get rid of the label and destroy it. This helps
you protect your medical information and keep it private. You don't want your name, address,
and other personal information showing up next to the name of the drug you are taking. If you
can't remove the label, take a marker and black out(用墨等涂掉) any personal information.
A few prescription medications need to be dealt with immediately after they are no longer
needed. These should still be washed away down the toilet. If your prescription is one of these,
the label on the container should say so.

Having one of those days or weeks when everything seems to annoy you? Even if you do nothing about it,
your bad mood will probably go away after some time. But with a little effort, you can forget it much faster,
often within a day or two.
     ●Walk it off
Exercise is the most popular way to remove bad mood. A person who's in a bad mood has low energy and
high tension. Taking a fast ten-minute walk, or taking some quick exercise can do wonders towards changing
that bad mood.
     ●Tune it out
Listening to your favorite music for a while can also make ten- sions go away quickly, because music starts
associations with past positive experiences we've had.

     ●Give yourself a pep talk
Stop and listen to what's on your mind. Bad moods are often started by too many negative thoughts. Write
them all down on paper, including the pessimistic messages you've been giving yourself and then give optimistic
answers.
●Avoid things that won't improve your mood
TV may not help much you need to increase your energy level and stimulate your mind. And before you
reach for that piece of cake and coffee, think about how _____ are linked. Sugar and caffeine contribute to
depressed moods while carbohydrates, such as potatoes and pasta (意大利面食), produce a calming effect in
people who have a desire for them.

I came to live here where I am now between Wounded Knee Greek and Grass Greek. Others.
came too,and we made these little grey houses of logs that you see, and they are square. It is a bad
way to live , for there can be no power in a square.
You have noticed that everything an Indian does is in a circle. and that is because the Power of the
World always works in circles. and everything tries to be round. In the old days when we were a strong
and happy people, all our power came to us from the respectful circle of the nation, and so long as the
circle was unbroken, the people were getting rich. The flowering tree was the living center of the circle,
and the circle of the four quarters nursed it. The east gave peace and light, the south gave warmth. the
west gave rain, and the north with its cold and strong wind gave strength and continuous power. This
knowledge came to us from the outer world with our brief. Everything the Power of the World does is
done in a circle. The sky is round , and I have heard that the earth is round like a ball ,and so are all the
stars. Birds make their nests in circles .for theirs are the same as ours. The sun comes forth and goes
down again in a circle. The moon does the same , and both are round. Even the seasons form a great
circle in their changing, and always come back again to where they were. The life of a man is a circle
from childhood to childhood, and so it is in everything where power moves. Our places were like the
nests of birds , and these were always set in a circle , the nation's circle , a nest of many nests.where
the Great Spirit meant for us to nurse our children.
But the Wasichus ( Indian word for " white people" )  have put us in these square boxes. Our
power is gone and we are dying , for the power is not in us any more. You can look at our boys and
see how it is with us. Where we were living by the power of the circle in the way we should, boys
were men at twelve or thirteen years of age. But now it takes them very much longer to be bull-grown.

A. don't have modern instruments in their homes

A. the Indians' today's and tomorrow's living beliefs
B. the Indians' past and present living conditions
C. the Indians' old and new power
D. man's power versus natural power
3. In the second paragraph "the four quarters" refers to_________.
A. the four directions
B. the four rooms of the Indian's house
C. the four seasons
D. the four kinds of natural power
4. According to the author, once the Indians moved into square houses,_______________.
A. they had to move to other houses
B. they forgot the old way of life
C. boys took more time to grow into men

It's great fun to explore (探索) new places-it feels like an adventure, even when you know you're not
the first to have been there. But make sure not to get lost or waste time going round in circles.
     ● Do the map reading if you're being driven somewhere. It'll be easier if you keep turning the map so
it follows the direction you' re traveling in. Keep looking ahead so that you can give the driver lots of
warning before having to make a turn, or you'll have to move to the back seat.
     ● Get a group of friends together and go exploring. You'll need a good map, a compass (指南针), a
raincoat, a cell phone to call for help in case you get lost, and a bit of spare cash for emergencies (应急现金).
Tell someone where you're going before you set out and let them know what time you expect to be back.
The test is in not getting lost, not in seeing how fast you can go, so always stick together, waiting for slower
friends to catch up.
     ● See if your school or a club organizes orienteering activities, in which you need a map and a compass
to find your way. This can be done as a sport, with teams trying to find the way from A to B
(and B to C, etc. ) in the fastest time, or simply as a spare-time activity. Either way, it's not only good fun,
but a great way to keep fit.
1. Sitting beside the driver, you should ______.
A. direct the driver when necessary
B. look ahead to see where there's a turn
C. move to the back seat if feeling uncomfortable
D. keep looking at the map to find a place to go to
2. Why do you need to tell someone your exploration plan before setting out?
A. To get information when in danger.
B. To be saved in case of an accident.
C. To share the fun with him/her in exploration.
D. To tell him/her what's going on with the group members.
3. Orienteering activities can ______.
A. make people work fast
B. help people stay healthy
C. help people organize other activities
D. make people get prepared for sports

The use of the word imitation(模仿) reminds me that we ought to make some more
comments on the risk of people imitating what they see on the screen in the way of crime
(犯罪) or violence.First there was always a risk of children acting out scenes which
could be dangerous. For example,I remember a woman who was head of a middle
school telling me that she had happened to look out of her window when the children
were on the playground and had seen them putting a small boy on a chair with a rope
round his neck and the rope over the branch of a tree;fortunately she was in time to get
there before the child was hanged.I remember a film in particular in which the hero who
was imprisoned had escaped by electrocuting(通电触死) his guard, the technique of
doing this being shown in detail. This was the kind of scene which we could cut for these
reasons.
In films for young people and adults we always tried to keep off the screen the details
of criminal techniques, such as how to open a locked door with a piece of hard plastic or
how to open a safe;if we were consulted(请教) before production,I used to advise that the
details should not be shown. When I gave talks in prisons about film checking I had full
support for this, since fathers who were in prison for criminal offences did not want their
children to get on crime.
Every time I gave a talk in a prison someone used to mention the French film Rififi
made by Jules Dassin in 1954.This remarkable film showed in great detail a robbery of
a jeweller's shop, the robbery lasting about half an hour and being backed by only natural
sound...one of the most brilliant film sequences(连续镜头) of all time.I remember
our discussion at the time.We thought that the robbery was finished only with the use of
advanced and obviously expensive equipment and that only the most experienced and skilled
criminals could possibly imitate it;we believed therefore that it was relatively safe. When talking
in prisons some years later I learned that there had been several robberies in which the techniques
had been copied,so perhaps we were wrong.

For the tenth and last time as Secretary General, I offer friends and colleagues around
the world my best wishes on United Nations Day. I have spent almost all my whole
professional life working for the United Nations-sothisday , andthevaluesthatstand for ,
willal-ways be special for me.
Over the past ten years, we have made some big steps forward in our common struggle
for development, security and human rights. Aid and debt relief have increased , making
the world economy somewhat fairer. At last, the world is increasing its response to
HIV/AIDS. There are fewer wars between States than there used to be , and manycivil
warshaveended. Moregovernments are elected by, and accountable to the people
whom they govern. And all States have acknowledged, at least in words, their
responsibility to protect people from genocide, war crimes, ethnic cleansing and
crimes against humanity.
But there is so much that still needs doing.
The gap between rich and poor continues to grow.
Thenuclearnon-proliferationregime (核不扩散机制) requires urgent attention.
Terrorism and the reaction to it are spreading fear and suspicion. It seems we don't
even agree which threats are most important. Those who live in small islands may
see global warming as the biggest danger. Those who live in a city that has suffered
terrorist attacks-likeNewYork , orMumbai, orIstanbul-may feel that confronting
terrorism is more urgent. Othersagainmaycitepoverty , disease , orgenocide. The
truth is , there are all global threats. All of us should be concerned about all of them.
Otherwise ,we may not succeed in dealing with any of them.
At this time of all times. We cannot afford to be divided. I know that you, the people
of the world, understand this. Thank you for all the support and encouragement you have
given me, throughout these ten difficult but exciting years.
Please urge your leaders to work with my successor, and make the United Nations
ever stronger and more affective.
Long live our planet, and its peoples!Long live the United Nations!
