【答案】Dear Editor,

This is a picture of a busy road. The cyclists and the vehicles are waiting for the traffic lights to turn green. From the picture we can see each of the two women volunteers is holding a red flag to make a stop sign.

At some crossings of busy streets and roads in a city or a big town, we often see volunteers helping keep traffic order and maintain traffic safety. In addition, they also promote traffic etiquette. Due to their devotion, people’s awareness of traffic safety and obeying traffic laws can be improved. Their good deeds should be sung high praise for.

From my point of view, as civilized citizens we should obey traffic rules consciously and become polite drivers or cyclists. Thus we can help improve traffic conditions and reduce traffic accidents to some degree.

Yours sincerely,

Li Hua

阅读下列短文,从每题所给的四个选项 (A 、B 、C 和 D )中,选出最佳选项。

Most people have heard of Shakespeare and probably know something of the plays that he wrote. However, not everybody knows much about the life of this remarkable man, except perhaps that he was born in the market town of Stratford upon Avon and that he married a woman called Anne Hathaway. We know nothing of his school life. We do not know, for example, how long it lasted, but we presume that he attended the local grammar school, where the principal subject taught was Latin.
Nothing certain is known for what he did between the time he left school and his departure for London. According to a local legend,he was beaten and even put in prison for stealing rabbits and deer from the estate of a neighboring landowner,Sir Thomas Lucy. It is said that because of this he was forced to run away from his native place. A different legend says that he was apprenticed to a Stratford butcher, but did not like the life and for this reason decided to leave Stratford.
Whatever caused him to leave the town of his birth, the world can be grateful that he did so. What is certain is that he set his foot on the road to fame when he arrived in London. It is said that at first he had no money or friends there, but that he earned a little by taking care of the horses of the gentlemen who attended the plays at the theatre. In_time , as he became a familiar figure to the actors in the theatre, they stopped and spoke to him. They found his conversation so brilliant that finally he was invited to join their company.

What will man be like in the future—in 5,000 or even 50,000 years from now? We can only make a guess, of course, but we can be sure that he will be different from what he is today, for man is slowly changing all the time.

Let us take an obvious example. Man, even five hundred years ago, was shorter than he is today. Now, on average, men are about three inches taller, so we may assume (假定) that man will continue to grow taller. Again, as time goes on, we shall have to use our brains more and more. This is likely to bring about a physical change to the head, in particular, the forehead will grow larger.

Nowadays our eyes are in constant use. In fact, we use them so much that very often they become weaker and we have to wear glasses. But over a very long period of time it is likely that man’s eyes will grow stronger.

On the other hand, we tend to make less use of our arms and legs, which, as a result, are likely to grow weaker. At the same time, however, our fingers will grow more sensitive because they are used a great deal in modern life.

But what about hair? This will probably disappear from the body altogether in course of time because it does not serve a useful purpose any longer.

Perhaps all these give the impression that in the future man will not be a very attractive creature to look at! This may well be true. All the same, in spite of all these changes, future man will still have a lot in common with us.

【1】What does the passage mainly tell us?

A. Man’s life will be different in the future.

B. Future man will look quite different from us.

C. Man is growing taller and uglier as time passes.

D. Man’s organs’ functions will be weaker.

2What serves as the evidence that man is changing?

A. Man’s hair is getting thinner and thinner.

B. Man has got stronger eyes now than he ever had.

C. Man’s arms and legs have become lighter and weaker.

D. Man has been growing taller over the past 500 years.

3What can learn about a human being in the future?

A. He thinks and feels in different ways.

B. He has smaller eyes and wears better glasses.

C. He is hairless because hair is no longer useful.

D. His fingers grow weaker because he doesn’t use them.

4According to the passage, we can learn that ________.

A. human beings will become less attractive in the future

B. less use of a part of the body will become weaker

C. human beings hope for a change in the future life

D. future life is always predictable

【题目】External bleeding.Apply direct pressure.Place a clean, folded cloth over the injured area and firmly apply pressure. If blood soaks through, do not remove it.Instead, cover that cloth with another one and continue to apply pressure to the wound for 7—10 minutes. If the bleeding is from the ear, place a clean bandage over the ear, lay the victim on his side, and allow the blood to drain out through the bandage.

Elevate the injury.Position the wounded part of the body above the level of the heart if possible while you apply direct pressure.

Know the pressure points. If direct pressure and elevation don't sufficiently slow the bloodflow, find a pressure point.Large arteries(动脉) found close to the skin's surface supply blood to the head and to each arm and leg.The most common pressure points used during the first aid are located in the upper arms and in the creases above the upper legs.Apply pressure to the closest pressure point to the wound so that the artery is pressed between your fingers and the bone directly behind the artery. If using the pressure point on a leg, you may need to use the heel of your hand instead of your fingers.

Resort to a tourniquet (止血带,压脉器 ).On very rare occasions everything listed above may fail.To prevent the victim from dying, you should apply a tourniquet.Once a tourniquet is applied,it should not be loosened or removed until the victim has reached medical help.Use a tourniquet only if everything listed above has failed. If you use a tourniquet, write down somewhere on the victim the time when it was applied, so medical persons will know how long it has been in place.
