　　Here in the Northeast Georgia mountains live an old man and his young grandson．A small sum of money given by the government is their only regular income．Man and boy walk up and down the highway daily collecting soft-drink bottles for resale．I stopped once, and tried to give the man a carton(硬纸盒)of empty bottles．Polite, but firmly, he refused my “charity”．

A man calls a company and orders their 5-day/10-pound weight loss program. The next day, there’s a knock on the door and there stands before him a voluptuous(艳丽的), athletic, 19-year-old girl dressed in nothing but a pair of Nike running shoes and a sign around her neck. Much to his delight on the fifth day when he weighs himself, he discovers that he has lost another 20 pounds as promised.

He decides to go for broke(全力以赴)and calls the company to order the 7-day/50-pound program.

“Are you sure? ” asks the representative on the phone. “This is our most rigorous program. ”

“Absolutely, ” he replies, “I haven’t felt this good in years. ”

A man heard that a certain government wanted a clerk, so wrote and asked for the position. But while he was waiting for an answer, a friend of his introduced him to the head of the department, who gave him the job. The man traveling in the back of the ambulance which was running at a high speed along the streets of Baltimore that morning in 2008 had no business to be alive．By everything that was reasonable，and there were plenty of such things before，he should have been very dead indeed．But he wasn’t．As the people in the hospital pointed out after they had examined him，he was only slightly hurt．Yet he had just fallen 150 feet down a hotel lift shaft（电梯通道）!

The man fell, making his journey to the ground at a speed he had never dreamed of. Confused patterns, a rush of air, time enough to be afraid, split-second thoughts of death, then-crash!

There lived a king who liked art. One day an artist offered to paint the most

beautiful picture in the world on the wall of his palace.

So the king said, “All right, you may work on one of the walls in the new hall.” Just then, another artist said, “ Please allow me to work on the opposite wall. I shall make exactly what that man will make on the opposite wall. Moreover, I shall do so without looking at his work. I would even request you to have a thick curtain put up between the two walls so the either of us cann’t see the other.”
