[2015山东济南第三次诊断] Robots that can chat, find misplaced glasses, draw aeroplanes and play with your children are attracting thousands of visitors during an expo in Tokyo as Japan adapts to changes in society.

Robots, such as the sound-sensitive Chapit, answer simple ques?tions and even joke with people to help them fight loneliness and stay alert in old age.

Japan has one of the world's fastest-ageing societies and the government pre?dicts that by 2050 the proportion of people over 65 will reach 40 per cent. "Many ol?der people in Japan live alone and have no one to talk to," said Kazuya      Kitamura, representative of the expo organizer. "Communication robots accompany people and don't mind listening to the same stories over and over again." Matsumoto's " Personal Mobility Robot", equipped with four cameras and a sen?sor to recognize the user's centre of gravity,is designed to help the old move around without pressing buttons, using joysticks (操纵杆) or rotating wheels as in traditional wheelchairs.

The robot can also help find misplaced glasses by identifying them with a sen-

sor.

Other robots, such as the award-winning "DiGRO" can support busy parents who have little time to play with their children. The robot can use the Internet to find a simple image and then draw pictures, keeping children company while parents work.

While Chapit,a relatively simple robot, managed to attract a corporate partner, many researchers, such as Kiyoshi Matsumoto,a professor at the University of To?kyo, struggle to attract sponsors for more expensive projects.

"We have developed a robot that can assist many people, but we still haven't found a sponsor," said Matsumoto, who added that the cost of the machine,if massproduced, would be comparable to that of a car. "In the current economic environ?ment there are few companies willing to invest in such a costly project," he said.

A study of English learning problems was carried out among106 foreign students. 19.        This was followed by speaking. Writing increased as a problem as students discovered difficulties in writing papers that they were now expected to hand in. 20.

The information gained helped us in determining where special attention should be paid in our course. Although many students have chosen to join the course with a reasonable motivation,we considered it important to note what seemed to encourage interest. 21.        To use the same method would be selfdefeating because it might reduce motivation, especially if it has failed in the past. 22.

Variety of activity was also seen as a way of maintai?ning or increasing motivation.  Several years ago we had one timetable that operated throughout. 23.

This led up to a major rethink,so finally we brought it in?to line with the expressed language needs of the students.

   A. It shows that most students considered understanding spoken English their biggest problem.

   B. Nearly all the students have experienced some kind of grammarbased English teaching.

   C. However,we soon found that both the students and the teachers lost interest halfway.

   D. Therefore a different method may help because it is different.

   E. English learning problems should be studied again.

   F. Teaching content should be changed halfway.

   G. Reading remained as a significant problem.
