2.There is a scene in the movie The Descendants and it went something like this---George Clooney's character Matt King has a daughter who may be 9or 10.She said something bad to a girl at her school that made her cry.The mother of that girl made Matt and his daughter come to their house to apologize."Sorry,"said his daughter very casually.She was clearly not sorry for her actions and the girl's mother complained she didn't take her apology seriously.Matt shrugged(耸)his shoulders.What was he supposed to do?His daughter apologized as asked.He couldn't make her mean her words.
I always think of this story when my daughter is asked by other adults to apologize for her wrong doings.I know my daughter is being taught to say"sorry"with all the best intentions.They are teaching her to be polite.But she is apologizing because she is being forced to please the adult or to avert punishment.
This situation has happened on a few occasions and it really bothers me.Here are three reasons why I don't think it's a good idea to teach children to say sorry:1.My daughter is being taught to say things that are not from her heart.2.She is being taught insincerity(不真诚) is valued over genuineness.3.She is being taught she needs to please others to be loved.
These messages make me uncomfortable and I will not ask my children to apologize.Instead, this is what I think people should teach children:
•teach them behavior that is acceptable and to practice positive behavior.
•teach them how their actions affect others.
•give them space to think about the situation and ask them to suggest ways to make the situation better.
•help them make healthy choices
•lead by example and show them how to fix wrong doings

1.Have you ever intended to be fully absorbed in your work but found yourself distracted (走神) by e-mail,the Internet and other things throughout the day?According to the survey made by a famous university in the USA,most people have the experience.
"People often lose their concentration when they are bored,of course,but also when they are engaged in challenging tasks,"says Peter Bregman,the head of the survey."They sometimes have a feeling to escape from what's difficult or boring,so they jump out,"he says.The part of the brain devoted to attention is connected to the brain's emotional center.Any strong emotion-quarrels with colleagues,problems at home-can interrupt our attention.Studies over the last decade have shown that too much work to do at a time can easily lead to distraction.
Refocusing is hard for many people.Robert Epstein suggests the following,"Stop and listen to some soft music for a few minutes.Find a good friend or a teacher and say out your matter on your mind.Go for a short walk or take a deep breath,where you breathe in deeply,count to five slowly,hold it and breathe out very slowly."This can"blow out all the tension and the unwanted in your mind to restore your focus."
Take more control by structuring your time and becoming more aware of your behaviors."Setting the phone alarm to go off every hour is my way of creating awareness,"Mr.Bregman says."You have to inform yourself that you've lost focus in order to do something about it."Starting the day with a to-do list is also important,such as when to eat,when to go to the gym or take a walk.But if it's overly ambitious,you will put yourself in a state of anxiety,which makes it hard for the brain to concentrate."Choosing three or four things as your priority (优先) for the day allows your brain to settle down and focus,"he says.

2.I had been rather proud of myself when my friends and family got the ticket, whether it was for speeding, parking or stop sign violations (违反).It was something that happened to others. But last Friday I joinedthe club.
I was asked to do a new project last week.On Friday morning on my way to work,I suddenly remembered that I had spent the past six weeks without considering that I had a week's vacation planned during that time.I was very disappointed with myself for not remembering it.The fact  is that I was not paying enough attention to my driving and I did not come to a complete stop at the stop sign in front of a school.I was so distracted (思想不集中的)that I didn't even notice I had a policeman on my tail with his lights flashing. Finally I looked in my mirror and caught on.
The policeman was rude and took my papers.Fortunately,I had everything up to date and since I had never had a ticket before, there was nothing for him to do but write me a ticket. While I was sitting there in the seat of"shame",I felt bad.If I had been that distracted and a child had run onto the road, perhaps I would have not reacted as well as I could have.It was a wake-up call.
People at work asked me if I tried to talk my way out of it.Frankly,it never occurred to me.I felt guilty. Now I no longer have a clean driving record. Please be careful out there,as a moment's distraction can lead to tragedy.
