分析句子并根据句意可知,her great virtueher excellent medical level之间是并列关系,所以用连词and。故将or改为and

busy doing sth.

she hardly had time to accompany myself是一个句子,所以此处应用连词because。故去掉because后的of

故将most 改为 more

Mother’s Gift

I grew up in a small town when the primary school was a ten-minute walk from my house. When the noon bell rang, I would race breathlessly home. My mother would be standing at the top of the stairs, smiling down at me.

One lunch-time when I was in the third grade will stay with me always. I had been picked to be the princess in the school play, and for weeks my mother had rehearsed my lines so hard with me. But no matter how easily I acted at home, as soon as I stepped onstage, every word disappeared from my head. Finally, my teacher took me aside. She explained that she had written a narrator’s (旁白的) part to the play, and asked me to change roles. Her words, kindly expressed, still hurt, especially when I saw my part go to another girl.

I didn’t tell my mother what had happened when I went home for lunch that day. But she sensed my pain. Instead of suggesting we practice my lines, she asked if I wanted to walk in the yard.

It was a lovely spring day and the rose vine (藤蔓) was turning green. Under the huge trees, we could see yellow dandelions (蒲公英) in the grass in bunch, as if a painter had touched our landscape with gold. I watched my mother casually bend down by one dandelion. “I think I’m going to dig up all these weeds,” she said, “pulling it up by its roots. From now on, we’ll have only roses in this garden.”

“But I like dandelions,” I protested. “All flowers are beautiful---even dandelions.”

My mother looked at me seriously. “Yes, every flower gives pleasure in its own way, doesn’t it?” She asked thoughtfully. I nodded, pleased that I had won her over. “And that is true of people too,” she added. “Not everyone can be a princess, but there is no shame in that.” Relieved that she had guessed my pain, I started to cry as I told her what had happened. She listened and smiled.

The skin under the eyes is delicate, which is why it sometimes appears sunken and has darker coloring than elsewhere on the face. Aging and health problems play a role in sunken eyes but other factors can contribute too, so it may affect younger people as well.

Dehydration

The most common cause of sunken eyes is dehydration, or not having enough water in the body. Consuming too much coffee, soda, and prepackaged drinks may increase production of urine, which may lead to dehydration.

Vitamin shortages

Shortages of vitamin C, vitamin K, and iron can cause eyes to become sunken. Vitamin C helps with absorbing iron and decreasing bruising, while vitamin K is responsible for blood thickening, the lack of which may cause unhealthy skin. Easy bruising and unhealthy skin will result in sunken eyes.

Weight loss

Most people tend to lose weight in their face first. Sometimes, the weight loss is sudden enough to make blood vessels below the eyes easy to see, and the skin clear, producing the appearance of sunken eyes. Sudden weight loss may also cause nutritional shortages, which can lead to sunken eyes.

Not enough sleep or poor-quality sleep can cause sunken eyes and a person’s DNA or the habit of smoking can also contribute to sunken eyes. Most cases of sunken eyes relate to the quality of an individual’s nutrition and healthy living. When these causes are corrected, sunken eyes can be resolved without further treatment. This means that causes can be avoided or treated in good time to prevent the recurrence of sunken eyes.

1What can we do to prevent dehydration according to the text?

A.Have certain drinks less.B.Refuse coffee.

C.Drink more water.D.Say no to soft drinks.

【题目】 The time-out (暂停)is a method to punish your children's misbehavior (不当行为).Children are taken away from their present situation for a few minutes. During the time-out they are put in a place and not allowed to do anything. It's a great way to help your children calm down and realize their shortcomings. 1.

Decide what is worth a time-out

Find a quiet moment to discuss a time-out principle for your family, determining where you'll give time-outs, for what reasons, and for how long. 2. And you can make your first time-out feel prepared and calm.

Give a warning

Instead of suddenly giving a time-out to your children, warn them that they'll get one if they continue to be naughty. 3. At this age children are often angry without realizing it.

Giving them a time-out can make them calm. Some kids dislike time-outs very much, so that finally the warning itself does the job. However, warnings are not enough. When your children hit, kick, or bite someone, use a time-out right away.

4

It's a good idea to choose a time-out place, such as a chair or the end of a hallway. But remember that the place you choose needs to be safe and shouldn't be frightening.

Decide how long time-outs will last

5. Your children should have enough time to stop misbehaving and calm down. If it is too short or too long, your children may forget the punishment or become upset.
