I was watching a TV series one night when I took in one scene. A young man was seeking his community votes, and people 1 wanted to know why they should give him their 2. He took them to his house and on every
3in his house was the word “Faith” pasted. People raised lots of4 to find out why the word was pasted on his mirrors. He said, “My dad often 5 me to believe that as long as you have 6 you should have faith. Every time you look into the mirror, you’re looking at yourself and see “ Faith”.
The7I learned from this is simple-----faith is a living thing and in the same way we’re all 8 given 24 hours a day and we’re all given the same measure of faith. Faith keeps us going when things get 9 Why is some people’s faith stronger than that of others? Exercise! If we choose to exercise our faith, it will 10; but if we choose not to, it remains weak. Some people might 11 that they don’t have faith, but we all practice faith every day even if we don’t 12 it as a faith. Daily 13 , such as studying, investing or reaching for a dream, take faith.
Faith 14 hearing and doing. I made a decision yesterday----to15 reading the newspapers full of too much sad and16 news. Why? Because I 17 there was a drop of my mental state after reading the newspapers.
Faith, when it’s put to 18, becomes a beautiful thing. It lifts your mental state to a higher place that 19you to raise yourself up and declare, “Yes, I can.” So make the decision today to strengthen your faith by 20 it.

Don’t shoot butterflies with guns.
Can you 1 someone running after a butterfly with a gun in his hands? Won’t such stupidity make you burst out laughing? But wait. Stop and consider how often you might have done something 2.
A hen, Henny-Penny, lived in a forest with many other animals and birds. One fine, sunny morning, she was busy looking for 3咯咯叫) with wings flapping 4. A dry leaf had fallen down on her, and she went 5 at whoever she met, “Run, run for your lives; the sky is falling.” The other creatures stopped whatever they were doing. Some ran behind Henny-Penny, screaming warnings with her, while others 6 the unfounded story that the sky was falling.
We all have 7 people like this hen. The rest of us are like the other foolish creatures who didn’t stop to verify (证实) the 8 for themselves. They shoot butterflies with guns. They just will not think for themselves. Why don’t people think for themselves? Often because of laziness, or because they don’t want to be 9 for their way of thinking.
Walking through life 10 is more dangerous than crossing a busy road with eyes closed. Our thoughts should lead us towards the light of wisdom and sense. Our thinking should be high,11 us to the ranks of the sensible. We have been blessed with reasoning, sensitive minds. Let us make use of them and be 12 of our own minds. Don’t let your mind be enslaved by someone else. Stop, think and then go ahead.

Last January I was given a chance to work in another country. At first, I lived a1 life, but soon I met a group of new friends and they were really nice.
Then something2happened. One of our friends suffered from kidney stones (肾结石), which had to be3surgically as soon as possible. But it was not as 4as that! Our friend could not5the operation, which put him into dee6. I didn’t know how to help him because I didn’t have any money either.7, I never lost hope. Instead I tried to think of other8and told him not to worry because everything would be all right.
Before I left the hospital, I talked to the surgeon and asked him to do the surgery, saying I would pay the expenses the next day9I had that kind of money. Well, I must have been   10because the surgeon agreed to do it! But how was I going to get that much money?
All I knew was that I needed to help my friend! Although it could be11to deal with this kind of situation, I decided to make some efforts. I tried to borrow money but failed. I tried 12  my things but no one wanted them. Then I had the idea of talking to my 13. I asked him if I could have my next two months’ salary in advance—without even thinking on how I would  14 for two months with no money. He was surprised and asked me the reason. I told him that I had a friend who was really in need.15I convinced him too and then he gave my two months’ salary without any16!
Upon getting the money, I ran to the hospital and paid all the bills. My friend didn’t know how to thank me. I just said, “Come on! Give me a17!”
Friendship may not only be found at the happy moment but sometimes you can find it on the  18time in your life! I’ve done a good thing by being a (an) 19friend and I think it is well worth the 20 .

Do you know what kind of things the young people are reading. More and more1and parents have noticed another kind of pollution, which came from the printed papers2on streets.
These printed things3newspapers but have hardly anything to do with4, you can only find reading materials badly made up these—— some are too strange for anyone to5; others are frightening stories of something still worse. However, many of the young readers are getting interested in such 6reading, which7 them what they should pay for their breakfast and brings them nightmares(恶梦)and immoral(邪恶的)ideas in return. Homework was left 8 ; daily games lost.
These sellers shout on streets selling their papers well. The writers, publishers and printers, whoever they are, we never know, are9their silent money.
The sheep - skinned wolf's story seems to have been forgotten once again. Why not10 this kind of thing. Yes, both teachers and parents have asked each other for more strict control of the young readers. 11, the more you want to forbid it, the more they want to have a look at it. Sometimes you may even find out several children, driven by the curious natures, 12one patched paper, which has traveled from hand to hand.
It really does 13to our society. It has already formed a sort of moral pollution. The14teachers and parents need more powerful support in their protection of the young generation. At the same time the young readers need more interesting books to help them 15those ugly papers.

Several years ago, while attending a communication course, I experienced a most unusual process. The instructor asked us to list anything in our past that we felt 1 of, regretted, or incomplete about and read our lists aloud.
This seemed like a very 2 process, but there's always some brave soul in the crowd who will volunteer. The instructor then 3 that we find ways to 4 people, or take some action to right any wrongdoings. I was seriously wondering how this could ever 5 my communication.
Then the man next to me raised his hand and volunteered this story: “Making my 6, I remembered an incident from high school. I grew up in a small town. There was a Sheriff none of us kids liked. One night, my two buddies(老兄) and I decided to play a 7 on him.”
“After drinking a few beers, we climbed the tall water tank in the middle of the town, and wrote on the tank in bright red paint: Sheriff Brown is a FOX. The next day, almost the whole town saw our glorious 8. Within two hours, Sheriff Brown had us in his office. My friends told the truth but I lied. No one 9 found out.”
"Nearly 20 years later, Sheriff Brown’s name 10 on my list. I didn't even know if he was still 11. Last weekend, I dialed the information in my hometown and found there was a Roger Brown still listed.  I tried his number. After a few 12 , I heard, “Hello?” I said, “Sheriff Brown?” Paused “Yes”. “Well, this is Jimmy Calkins.”
“And I want you to know that I did it.” Paused. “I knew it!” he yelled back. We had a good laugh and a 13 discussion. His closing words were: “Jimmy, I always felt bad for you because your buddies got it off their chest, but you were carrying it around all these years. I want to thank you for calling me … for your sake.”
Jimmy inspired me to 14 all 101 items on my list within two years, and I always remember what I learned from the course: It's never too late to 15 the past wrongdoings.
