【题目】Culture shock isn't a clinical term or medical condition. It's simply a common way to describe the confusing and nervous feelings a person may have after leaving a familiar culture to live in a new and different culture. 1

Those can be exciting, but those can also be overwhelming. You may feel sad, anxious, frustrated and want to go home.

Everyone may feel the pressure to change himself to fit in at one time or another—whether they've lived in the area for days or years.2All of your experiences before you come to your new home are part of you and what makes you special.

The following tips may help you live in a new culture more easily and make sure the new culture doesn't overpower the old.

Teach people your culture. You're the one who meets the new culture, but it doesn't mean you should be the one doing all the learning. Take the opportunity to teach your classmates and new friends about your culture. 3Invite them for traditional dishes from your culture, or show them how you celebrate your holidays.

Find a support group. Find people in your class or neighborhood who have recently moved here, too. You can share experiences, cheer each other up when things get difficult.

Keep in touch with home. You probably left behind your good friends and family when you moved. If it's going to be a long time until your next visit, keep in touch.4You not only left behind people, but also other things, like your favorite spots to hang out. Keep pictures around to remind you of home.

Remember, the key to getting over your culture shock is to understand the new culture and find a way to live comfortably within it while keeping true to the parts of your own culture that you value.

It's also important to be yourself. Try not to force yourself to change too fast or too many things all at once.5As long as you find a good combination between old and new cultures, you'll be fine.

A. Making friends who aren't new to the culture may help you understand the new culture better.

B. But don't feel that you need to change everything about yourself so you can stand out less.

C. When you move to a new place, you're bound to face a lot of changes.

D. Write letters, send emails, and make phone calls so that you can learn about the things happening there.

E. You will have your own pace of adjusting.

F. But the good news is that culture shock is temporary.

G. It will also help them to learn more about you in the process.

【题目】阅读下列短文,从每题所给的四个选项(A、B、C和D)中,选出最佳选项。
D
It is natural that young people are often uncomfortable when they are with their parents. They say that their parents don't understand them. They often think that their parents are out of touch with modern ways, that they are too serious and too strict with their children, and that they seldom give their children a free hand.
It is true that parents often find it difficult to win their children's trust and they tend(倾向) to forget how they themselves felt when young.
For example, young people like to act on the spot without much thinking. It is one of their ways to show that they have grown up and they can face any difficult situation. Old people worry more easily. Most of them plan things in advance, at least in the back of their minds, and do not like their plans to be upset by something unexpected.
When you want your parents to let you do something, you will have better success if you ask before you really start doing it.
Young people often make their parents angry with their choices in clothes, in entertainment and in music. But they do not mean to cause any trouble; it is just that they feel cut off from the older people's world, into which they have not yet been accepted. That's why young people want to make a new culture of their own, and if their parents don't like their music or entertainment or clothes or their way of speech, this will make the young people extremely happy.
Sometimes you are so proud of yourself that you do not want your parents to say “yes” to what you do. All you want is to be left alone and do what you like. It is natural enough, after being a child for so many years, when you were completely under your parents’ control.
If you prefer to control your life, you'd better win your parents over and try to get them to understand you. If your parents see that you have a high sense of responsibility, they will certainly give you the right to do what you want to do.

(3)According to the text, young people want to make a new culture of their own, because _________.
A.they feel they are cleverer than old people
B.they do not want to get into trouble with their parents

【题目】Captain Henry, a 98-year-old American retired fisherman, has become a first-time author, having written and published his autobiography In a Fisherman’s Language after learning to read at the age of 91.

Mr. Henry spent most of his life without even his closest family members knowing he was illiterate (不识字的). Forced to quit school in the third grade to take odd jobs, he kept the secret close to his chest, only telling his late wife. Henry’s granddaughter, Marlisa, told reporters how he used tricks, like waiting for others to order at restaurants first, to avoid the issue.

A family dispute in his nineties, she said, aroused his desire for education. “He signed a document he could not read about where he was going to live,” Marlisa said. Starting with his name, he eventually moved on to the ABC’s and children’s books. He put them down since his wife fell ill. After the tragic loss of his wife, he went back to reading and began to log his life. He wrote about his family’s voyage from Portugal to the US, how he went on to captain a boat, and his many journeys at sea.

His life stories have become so popular that nearly 800 copies were sold in the first two weeks after the book’s release. One thousand more have been printed as requests for the book flood in as far as Germany.
