【答案】

Dear Jack,

I’m just so glad to receive your regular letter.

I’m proud to tell you that you have made rapid progress in such a short time! You letter is better written than the last one. Obviously, you have mastered how to use some Chinese characters freely. But it doesn’t mean there’s no problem at all. For instance, unlike English, we usually use “因为……所以……” in one sentence. So you should correct the fourth sentence in your letter. And I advise you to do more reading and try to use these sentence patterns in your writing as possible as you can.

I wrote a travel journal about our trip to a natural park yesterday. I’ll send it to you later. If there is any mistake in my writing, please tell me and correct it for me. I’m sure we both will make great progress this way.

I’m looking forward to hearing from you soon.

Yours,

Li Hua

【题目】Most of us would like to have glowing skin, especially as we get older. The good news is that you don’t have to wait until summer to catch some sun rays. Scientists have found eating plenty of fruit and vegetables is by far the best way to achieve a healthy, golden glow.

Dr. Ian Stephen said, “Most people think that the best way to improve their skin color is to get a suntan(棕褐色). But our research shows that eating lots of fruit and vegetables is actually more effective.”

The team first assessed the skin color of people in relation to their diet. Those who ate more fruit and vegetables a day were found to have a more golden, yellow skin color. Those with a healthy glow had a higher presence of carotenoids(类胡萝卜素), which play a role in the immune system. Carotenoids are commonly found in fruit and vegetables such an yellow and red peppers, spinach, apricots and melons.

The team then studied the relation between skin tone and attractiveness. They used specialist software to operate the skin color on the images of 51 faces to simulate(模拟)more or less carotenoids and suntans. Participants were then asked to adjust the skin color to make the faces look as healthy as possible. Given the choice between skin color enhanced by suntans and skin color enhanced by carotenoids, people preferred the carotenoids skin color.

The study shows that not only do people use skin color to judge how healthy other individuals are, but they are accurate when they make those judgments. While this study focus on Caucasian(白种人的)faces, it suggests this phenomenon may exist across cultures, since similar preferences for skin yellowness are found in an African population.

However, most deaths result from fear, without a plan or understanding what is happening to the car in the water. By adopting a brace(支撑) position, acting decisively and getting out fast, you can save yourself from a sinking vehicle.Brace yourself for impact (撞击力). As soon as you're aware that you're going off th e road and into a body of water, adopt a brace position. The impact could set off the airbag system in your vehicle, so you should place both hands on the steering wheel(方向盘) in the "ten and two" position.Undo your seatbelt. 2. Release the children, starting with the oldest first. Forget the cell phone call. Your car isn't going to wait for you to make the call.3. Leave the door alone at this stage and concentrate on the window. A car's electrical system should work for up to three minutes in water, so try the method of opening it electronically first. Many people don't think about the window as an escape choice either because of fear or misinformation about doors and sinking.Break the window. If you aren't able to open the window, or it only opens halfway, you'll need to break it with an object or your foot. It may feel counter-intuitive (有悖常理的) to let water into the car. 4.Escape when the car has equalized. If it has reached the stage where the car has been filled with water and it has become balanced, you must move quickly and effectively to ensure your survival. 5. While there is still air in the car, take slow, deep breaths and focus on what you're doing.

A. Open the window as soon as you hit the water.

B. This is the first thing to do, yet it often gets forgotten.
