An ATM that spits out cupcakes instead of cash is now filling a popular demand in the American market:late-night desire for freshly baked sweets.

In six cities across the country, sugar addicts can now purchase a cupcake for $4.25 from an automatic machine 24 hours every day.The freshly baked goods are made by the California-based cupcake shop Sprinkles.

The idea came to the company's co-founders Candace and Charles Nelson when Candace was pregnant with their first child. Candace thought it was ridiculous that she owned cupcake bakeries aad couldn’t get a freshly baked treat at an unusual hour. That desire inspired the company’s first cupcake ATM in Beverly Hills,Calif.in 2012。

Charles said each ATM serves about l,000 cupcakes per day.The machine is so popular that when it appeared in Manhattan, customers were lined up around the block to use it.

Yet,inventing the first cupcake ATM was not as easy as convincing customers to use it.When the Nelsons started defigning the machine, they quickly realized nothing existed that could give a fully unbroken cupcake to a customer. The company had to partner with a European firm to develop the technology that could deliver a cupcake without dropping it several feet like a typical machine. After going through a seeond development cycle with the product, the ATMs can now satisfy tlle demand of growing customers and even make as many as four cupcakes at a time.

In terms of the company, the-machine allows Sprinkles to do the impossible:increase hours of operation without raising costs. Now the company can sell cupcakes around the clock through the ATM without paying employees.

Microsoft has a problem:It desperately wants the remaining Windows XP users to upgrade to a newer version of the operating system but a good many of them still haven’t started. The latest numbers from NetMarket show that Windows XP still accounts for around 29.5%of all desktops in use even though Microsoft is due to end support for the l3-Year-old platform on April 8th.ZDNet reports that Microsoft plans to force remaining XP users to start next week by sending them notices reminding them again that it will end XP support within a month.

However, as Computerworld reports,Microsoft may have a tough time convincing some Windows XP users to upgrade because it's trying to sell them on Windows 8,the newest operating system that has angered many longtime PC users by removing the traditional Start menu and by adding the interface(界面)a special feature.Computerworld writes that many Windows users expressed anger last month when Microsoft asked them to help switch as many people as they could from Windows XP to Windows 8 partly because Microsoft hasn’t offered any sort of discount for Windows XP users making the switch.

This is particularly tiresome, these users said, because switching from XP to Windows 8 won’t just require a software upgrade but will instead likely force them to buy new machines capable(能够)of running Microsoft’s new operating system. Some users were also annoyed that Microsoft only mentioned Windows 8 and not Windows 7 as upgrade possibilities.

In the end,it looks like when Microsoft ends support for Windows XP next month there will still be a large part of the desktop PC world using the platform.Hackers who have been saving up all their best new malware(恶意软件)for the day when Windows XP support ends are about to have a field day.

A.By sending them notices.

B.By sending them daily emails.

C.By adding the interface a special feature.

D.By removing the traditional Start menu.

3.Which is probably one of the reasons why users dislike Window 8?

A.Microsoft hasn’t offered any discount for it.

B.They like Window 7 more than Window 8.

C.Microsoft refuses to offer them a new machine.

D.It’s impossible for them to use the new operating system.

4.What does the underlined phrase “have a field day” probably mean in the last paragraph?

A.Show up without warning.

B.Make rapid progress.

C.Make full use of the opportunity.

D.Come to an end completely.

5.What can be inferred from the text?

A.Windows XP will completely be out of use in a month.

As the new semester begins, millions of college students across the country are trying hard to remember how best to write a paper-or,more likely, how best to delay that paper.

Procrastination is the thief of time and a lot of students suffer from it.They can spend whole days in the library doing nothing but staring into space, eating snacks, surfing the Internet, watching videos and looking at their pretty peers sitting around them, who, most likely, are doing nothing either.

Paralyzed by their habit to procrastinate, they write micro blogs about their fears, asking their online friends if they sometimes have the same issue. But this does nothing to solve their problems.

According to a recent report by the BBC,95 percent of us procrastinate at some point and 20 percent of the world’s population are procrastinators, complicating their lives with their continual delaying of tasks.

Procrastinators like to find excuses to justify their behavior, but BBC columnist Rowan Pelling says they are all wrong. Many procrastinators tell themselves they are perfectionists who work best under pressure.Pelling says this is nonsense,as work done at the last minute is more likely to have mistakes than work done on time.

She says the behavior of procrastinators often makes them feel flustered and ashamed, inconveniences others, and annoys loved ones.

Fortunately, social seientists have made tireless efforts to understand this behavioral shortcoming and offer strategies to control it.Piers Steel,a Canadian social scientist and author of The Procrastination Equation, believes humankind is“designed”to procrastinate.Nevertheless,he suggests a couple of good ways to get through the task at hand.

The first one is obvious:Break the task down into small pieces and work your way through them methodically.

The second is clever:Give a trusted friend a sum of money and tell them that if you don’t complete the task you have undertaken by a specific time, they can keep it or donate it to a cause you hate.

B.Many students don’t know what to do in the library.

C.Students can’t solve their procrastination by writing micro blogs.

D.20%of the procrastinators make their life complicated.

3.According to Rowan Pelling,we can learn that procrastinators .

A.can find reasonable excuses for their behavior

B.are able to work best under pressure

C.are more likely to avoid mistakes at work[]

D.may upset themselves and their loved ones more frequently

4.Which of the following may Piers Steel support?

A.Human beings are not born to be procrastinators.

B.Complete your tasks or work step by step.

C.Give your trusted friend money and ask him to help you finish your tasks.

D.You can’t control procrastination but you can avoid it.
