【题目】阅读理解

As I walked along the Edgware Road, I felt as though the world was closing in on me. All the sounds I take for granted, had gone. I had entered a world of silence. This unsettling experience occurred a few weeks ago when I agreed to go deaf for the day to support the work of the charity Hearing Dogs for Deaf People, for which I am an ambassador.

When I managed to take a cab to the office of my manager, Gavin, I couldnt hear what the taxi driver was saying to me. Conversation was impossible. Then, when I reached the office, I had to ring the intercom five times as I couldnt hear a response.

Everybody said I was shouting at them--- I simply wasnt aware of how loudly I was speaking as I couldnt hear my own voice. Gavin kept telling me my phone was ringing, but I didnt realize. I was too busy trying to concentrate on reading his lips. And when he tried to tell me a code to put into my phone, I had to keep asking him to repeat it, more slowly. Eventually he lost his patience and snapped at me: Just give me the phone! I was shocked.

People couldnt be bothered to repeat themselves, so they kept trying to do things for me that I was perfectly capable of doing myself. I felt Id lost control.

Being deaf for the day was extraordinarily tiring. I had to work so hard to listen with my eyes, get peoples attention and use my other senses to make up for my lack of hearing. It was a huge, exhausting effort.

Until that experience I didnt realize how much I took my own hearing for granted, or the sorts of emotions and experiences deaf people go through. If a deaf person asks you to repeat something, never think: It doesnt matter. It does matter.

Gavin kept telling me my phone was ringing, but I didnt realize. I was too busy trying to concentrate on reading his lips.

Until that experience I didnt realize how much I took my own hearing for granted, or the sorts of emotions and experiences deaf people go through直到那份经历我才意识到我多么对自己的听力想当然或者耳聋的人所经历的那份感情和经历。故答案为D。

My friend Li Hua used to be rather poor in English, especially his terrible and strange pronunciation. Hardly could he make him understood when speaking English. Bearing a heavy load in mind, he felt desperate and upset. He dared not speak English at class. When asking questions, he was always nervous and embarrassed. The classmates always make fun of him, saying that he was speaking Japanese! Once I met him in the corridor. I told him that his pronunciation was very special and a kind of like Obama’s. Believing what I said, he got greatly inspired. He spared no effort to practice speak English every day. Now, he can speak English fluent with a perfect accent.

Recently, he told me that it wasn’t long after he knew that I just told a little white lie then but he appreciated badly, without which, he said, he couldn’t have achieved such great progresses.

【题目】As with any house guests, indoor plants require a certain amount of basic, regular attention if they are going to feel at home. The first consideration when purchasing plants is to make reasonably sure that they are suitable for the condition in which they are going to be housed.

A general rule for most plants being brought indoors for the first time is to ensure that they have reasonable temperature of not less than 60 degrees Fahrenheit, a position out of cold air, safe from pets and not exposed to strong sunlight.

Plants love company. When plants are growing together, they create an atmosphere of damp around themselves which is far more beneficial than hot dry conditions. A group of plants will also present a more pleasing picture and provide an opportunity for a creative arrangement. There is no secret to this. Just rely on your natural feeling for harmony.

Watering and feeding plants are probably the two areas of care that are the least well understood, but, again, if you follow a few simple rules, your plants should do well. Cold slightly warm water is therefore the answer. It is usually better to pour water on to the soil on the surface of the pot rather than put the water into the pot holder at the bottom. Avoid giving small amount of water at regular intervals- it is much better to wet the soil right through the pot in one go and then to allow it to dry noticeably before giving it a further watering.

The majority of indoor plants will be in active growth from March until October, and during this time, the established ones will benefit from regular feeding. This may mean feeding with a weak liquid fertilizer(肥料) at each watering or at intervals of a week or ten days with fertilizer at a standard strength. It is important, however, to ensure that plants are not fed when growth is inactive, when the soil in the pot is dry, or too soon after the plants has been potted up.

C. It helps the air around them slightly wet.

D. It allows owners to draw a pleasant picture.

【3】While watering the plants, what should we remember to do?

A. Use water that is a little warm.

B. Pour the water into the pot holder.

C. Give small amount of water at one time.

D. Consider further watering in wet weather.

【4】What is the best time to feed the plants?

A. When the soil is dry.

B. When the temperature is high.

C. When their growth is active.
