　　W：It isn’t as easy as that．I like the job I have now very much．The people in my office are very nice and my work is very interesting．

　　M：What about the pay? Will you get more money?

　　W：Yes, the pay is better．If I accept the job, I’ll get more money right away．What should I do? I have to let them know my choice today．

　　W：Why don’t you sit down? Now, there are several questions I must ask you if you don’t mind．

　　W：What is the purpose of your visit to the States?

　　M：I’m going to attend a conference on air pollution．

　　W：It’s being held in the first two weeks of February at the University of Stanford in California．

　　M：The University of California? Here is the official letter of invitation．

　　W：I see．Fine．When do you want to go?

　　M：I’d like to leave in mid-January if my passport is ready by then．

　　W：That shouldn’t be difficult．Why don’t you phone me about January 10th?I should be able to give you an answer then．

　　W：Hello, George! I wanted to speak to you yesterday, but you weren’t at your usual place for lunch．

　　M：No, I had a free day from the newspaper office because I worked so much overtime last week．

　　W：Oh, I see．You had a holiday．

　　M：Well! I stayed at home and looked after the baby．

　　W：What! You took care of the baby? Whose baby?

　　M：Oh, it was my sister’s baby．She wanted to go shopping in the morning．So I stayed at home and did a lot of useful things．

　　W：Oh?

　　M：Yes．I mended my radio, washed a shirt and some socks, and cleaned out the drawers of my desk．

　　W：I don’t call that a holiday．I wanted to ask you to a concert last night．The one at the Town Hall near where we lived．

　　M：That’s funny! My office called me in the afternoon and asked me to go and write an article about the concert．I noticed that you weren’t there, but your friend Mary was．

　　W：Was she indeed? That’s very strange．

　　Here in Miami, the mayor is still meeting with the leader of the teachers’ union to try to find a way to end the strike．City schools are still closed for two weeks．

　　In news about health, scientists in California report finding of a relationship between the drinking of coffee and the increase of heart disease among women．According to the report in the New York Times, the five-year study shows this：Women who drink more than two cups of coffee a day have a greater chance of having heart disease than women who do not．
