13.Do you know the open-air art gallery in London's Blackall Street?Probably-not.Not many  Londoners know it either,but Henri does and he is willing to show it to you.
Henri used to sleep in parks until he met a charity(慈善机构) that helps homeless people get  back on their feet by becoming tour guides.
Rather than show traditional London sights,"Unseen Tours"take people off the beaten track.Henri has been teaching tourists about the history and architecture of Shoreditch,where he slept on public benches for three years.
When he felt separated from the society,contact with the volunteer network"The Sock Mob"gave Henri hope."Not everyone just looked down on me,"he said.The tours aren't the only actions trying to help those who have suffered a misfortune to stand tall again.
An innovative(创新的) college for homeless people in London,the first ofits kind in the country,is attracting hundreds of students.The Recovery College,set up by St Mungo's charity,is providing  courses designed to improve technical skills and life skills.
According to Andy Williams,who helps to organize the college,the most popular courses have proved to be about raising self-confidence and developing self-pride.
Steve,now in his 50s,told a reporter how much of a difference it makes to"have a bit of confidence".He had difficulty learning to read and had to leave school when he was 12.Because Steve's problem was not recognized at the time,he was"seen to be unable to read or write",and suffered with depression and alcohol addiction.He says the status of"student"is itselfimportant for people who are used to being treated as outcasts(被遗弃者)
Some charities aim not only to help the homeless become independent but also to make them popular.The Homeless World Cup started ten years ago.Today the tournament draws teams from 48countries made up of players-men and women-who are,or have been,living in the streets.It gives them a chance to become football heroes.

解答 31-35 CBACA

3.Cheerleading Is a Sport
The New York Times states that cheerleading is the fastest growing girls'sport, yet more than half of Americans do not believe it is a sport.
A sport,according to the Association of Cheerleading Coaches and Advisors,is a"physical activity against a competitor,governed by rules under which a winner is declared,and the primary purpose of the competition is a comparison of the relative skills of the participants."Because cheerleading follows these guidelines,it is a sport.
Cheerleading includes lots of physical activity.Like gymnasts,cheerleaders must learn to do a lot of movements,such as jumping,twisting and so on.It is not rare to see cheerleaders"flying"high up into the sky and falling to be caught by the"bases"in different positions that require strength and cooperation.
Just as basketball and football have rules for competitive play,so does cheerleading.The performance has to be completed in less than three minutes and 15seconds and the cheerleaders are required to stay within a certain area.
A cheerleader's goal is to be the best.Just like gymnasts,they are awarded points for difficulty,technique,and creativity.Cheerleading is a team sport,so the performance is also awarded according to the cooperation and synchronization.That is to say,the girls need to act like one person.Otherwise,first place is out of reach.
According to the National Center for Catastrophic Sport Injury Research,cheerleading is the number one cause of serious sports injuries to women,which is partly because they do not wear protective equipment.However,the main reason is that cheerleading is not yet recognized as a sport by many schools,the proper equipment is not provided to ensure safety.Instead,the girls use whatever space is available.More recognition of cheerleading as a sport would decrease the number of injuries.
So why do many Americans think cheerleading is not a sport?It cannot be because cheerleaders do not use balls or other objects.Wrestling,swimming,track,skating and boxing are recognized sports that do not use balls.
Hopefully,cheerleading will become as well-known a sport as football and basketball,and even appear in the Olympics since cheerleaders are just as athletic and physically fit as those involved in the more accepted sports.
44.What is NOT the standard for sport according to the Association of Cheerleading Coaches and Advisors?B
A.Physical movement is required.
B.The number of participants is limited.
C.The aim of a sport is to beat the competitor.
D.A winner is finally decided after the competition.
45.The underlined word"synchronization"in Paragraph 5probably meansC.
A.being creative in designing the movements
B.presenting a challenging performance
C.doing the movement at the same time
D.setting a practical competitive goal
46.Which is the main reason for more injuries to women in cheerleading according to the author?D
A.Physical activities.B.Strong competition.
C.Carelessness.D.Less recognition.
47.What is the purpose of the author to write the passage?B
A.To discuss the standards of a sport.
B.To introduce the sport of cheerleading.
C.To invite people to take part in cheerleading.
D.To suggest improving cheerleading equipment.

1.Nowadays,more and more people are unable to sleep due to various of reasons.
What will you do if you have trouble going to sleep?Try a glass of warm milk, still no luck?Try counting sheep,"one, two, three…"It is late but you are still awake. Are you supposed to take a sleeping pill? No,because if you take it,you will probably depend on the drugs.So you lie awake all night hoping that the new workday will arrive soon.
A new study has found that you might fall asleep quicker and stay asleep longer if you try"cerebral hypothermia."No,cerebral hypothermia is not a complex medical process.It just means cooling down your brain.Eric Nofzinger and Daniel Buysse of the University of Pittsburgh Medical School led the study.They examined 12people who had insomnia.Twelve others had no sleep problems.Each of them wore a soft plastic cap on their heads at bed time, which had tubes (管子) inside filled with water.
The first two nights of testing, the patients wore no water caps.During the next two nights, the caps were worn, but the water was not cooled. Then the researchers cooled the water a little for two nights. On the final two nights of the study, the temperature of the water was made much cooler.
The researchers found that the water caps did not help the insomnia patients until the temperature was about 14℃.Most of the patients fell asleep faster and slept better when the coolest water was moving around their heads.
Dr.Nofzinger and Dr.Buysse noted that this was only the beginning of the brain temperature study. But they believe they have discovered something important that needs more research. They presented their test results in June at a meeting of the Associated Professional Sleep Societies in Minneapolis,Minnesota.

A.people can sleep better by wearing caps.

C.more research should be done.

Winning houses
At Christmas time, people from Sweden to Seattle enter their creations in gingerbread house contests.Winners receive prizes for the most difficult to build, most creative, most beautiful as well as other categories. But winning contests isn't the main reason why making these houses is so popular. The wonderful smell as the gingerbread bakes and the joy of eating it are the real reasons!
