It is no secret that physical activity is necessary to a person’s well-being. Because children are continuously developing physically and emotionally, they are especially affected by the benefits of activity. Former First Lady Michelle Obama’s Let’s Move initiative reports that nearly one-third of US children are overweight or obese, and that “schools are a key setting for kids to get their 60 minutes of play with moderate activity, given the significant portion(部分) of time they spend there.”

Physical education programs in schools directly benefit students’ physical health. Regular exercise promotes muscles and bone development. In addition to participating in physical activity, students in P.E. learn the fundamentals of a healthful lifestyle, the building blocks upon which they can develop into healthy, knowledgeable adults.

Though the lack of attention on P.E. is often justified as an opportunity to spend more time in the classroom, studies show that physical activity contributes to improved academic performance. Regular activity during the school day is strongly associated with higher concentration levels. A statewide policy in North Carolina requires that children from kindergarten to eighth grade participate in 30 minutes of physical activity each day.

Activities in P.E. help children develop healthful social interactions. From a young age, children learn cooperation through group activities and form a positive sense of identity as part of a team. Such group activities are continually important as children grow older. The International Platform on Sport and Development states that sport has been used as a practical tool to engage young people in their communities through volunteering, resulting in higher levels of leadership and community engagement among young people.

The benefits of P.E. to a child’s mental health are both complex and comprehensive. Improved physical health, academics and social interactions all contribute to good mental health. Physical activity sets the stage for a good night’s sleep, provides more energy to participate in hobbies and interact with others.

A.They assure you of a successful future.B.They keep your mind in a good state.

根据第一段第一句“schools are a key setting for kids to get their 60 minutes of play with moderate activity, given the significant portion(部分) of time they spend there.”(学校是孩子们进行60分钟适度活动的关键场所,因为他们在学校的时间占了相当大的一部分。)

Though the lack of attention on P.E. is often justified as an opportunity to spend more time in the classroom, studies show that physical activity contributes to improved academic performance.(虽然缺乏对体育的关注通常被认为是在课堂上花更多时间的机会,但研究表明,体育活动有助于提高学习成绩。)

根据第三段中studies show that physical activity contributes to improved academic performance.,第四段第一句Activities in P.E. help children develop healthful social interactions. Improved physical health, academics and social interactions all contribute to good mental health. 故选A

A statewide policy in North Carolina requires that children from kindergarten to eighth grade participate in 30 minutes of physical activity each day. Activities in P.E. help children develop healthful social interactions.

Improved physical health, academics and social interactions all contribute to good mental health.

Physical education programs in schools directly benefit students’ physical health. Regular exercise promotes muscles and bone development.

Businesses are witnessing a difficult time, which has in turn produced influence on consumers, desire to go green. However, shoppers are still laying stress on environmental concerns.

Two thirds of customers say that environmental considerations inform their purchases to the same degree as they did a year ago, while more than a quarter say that they are now even better aware of the environmental effect on what they buy.

This may help to influence how shops store goods on their shelves. And the companies should still make efforts to become more environmentally friendly. Two out of three people think it is important to buy from environmentally responsible companies, with about one in seven saying that they had even decided to take their custom elsewhere if they felt a company’s environmental reputation was not good enough.

Harry Morrison, chief executive (主管) of the Carbon Trust, sympathizes: “I understand this situation where survival is very important now. But from environmental considerations, the clock is ticking — we don’t have much time. In addition, cutting carbon has an immediate effect as costs drop and a medium-term benefit for the brand.”

Larger companies have an extra motivation to look at reducing their carbon footprint, as new rules next year will require businesses to buy carbon allowances to make up for their emissions (排放). Those that have taken early action will have a head start. More than two thirds of consumers are not clear about which companies are environmentally responsible. This suggests that firms that are able to relay clearly their message to the public will be in a pole position to attract shoppers.

The Carbon Trust believes that it can help by informing customers about the good work companies are doing. “When companies are granted (授予) the standard, they can use a logo (标识) in all their marketing which makes it clear that they are working towards cutting emissions,” Mr. Morrison said.

Scientists have developed a new surgical glue that could transform emergency treatments by sealing up critical wounds in the skin or the organs, without the need for staples or sutures(钉合或缝合).

It’s called MeTro. It was developed by researchers from both Harvard Medical School and the University of Sydney, led by Nasim Annabi, an assistant professor of chemical 1. The glue is made from a modified(改良的)human protein that responds to UV light, allowing the application and drying of the gel-like substance in just a minute.

According to the international team of researchers behind the glue, it could quite literally be a lifesaver, sealing up wounds in 60 seconds without stopping the natural 2 and relaxing of the organ or the skin it’s applied to. Wounds 3 with MeTro can heal up in half the time compared with stitches or staples, the researchers claim, and if surgery is required then MeTro can simplify that 4 too. It's also one of several ways researchers are exploring to engineer our body's own natural substances to help repair it when needed.

The 5 applications are powerful – from treating serious 6 wounds at emergency sites such as following car accidents and in war zones, as well as improving hospital surgeries.

MeTro is simple to apply, can be easily stored, and works closely with natural 7 to heal a wound. What’s more, it degrades without leaving any kind of poisonous leftovers in the body.

For now the trials are 8 to animal models. But human trials are in the works, and the results to date are incredibly 9. If the MeTro can be further developed into a 10 product, it could become an essential part of a first responder’s toolkit.
