题目内容

15.Their cheery song brightens many a winter's day.But robins(知更鸟) are in danger of wearing themselves out by singing too much.Robins are singing all night一 as well as during the day,British-based researchers say.
David Dominoni,of Glasgow University, said that light from street lamps, takeaway signs and homes is affecting the birds'biological clock, leading to them being wide awake when they should be asleep.
Dr Dominoni,who is putting cameras inside nesting boxes to track sleeping patterns,said lack of sleep could put the birds'health at risk.His study shows that when robins are exposed to light at night in the lab,it leads to some genes being active at the wrong time of day.And the more birds are exposed to light,the more active they are at night.
He told people at a conference,"There have been a couple of studies suggesting they are increasing their song output at night and during the day they are still singing.Singing is a costly behaviour and it takes energy.So by increasing their song output,there might be some costs of energy."
And it is not just robins that are being kept awake by artificial light.Blackoiids and seagulls are also being morenocturnal.Dr Dominoni said,"In Glasgow where I live,gulls are a serious problem.I have people coming to me saying′You are the bird expert.Can you help us kill these gulls?'.During the breeding(繁殖)season,between April and June,they are very active at night and very noisy and people can't sleep."
Although Dr Dominoni has only studied light pollution, other research concluded that robins living in noisy cities have started to sing at night to make themselves heard over loud noise.
However,some birds thrive(兴旺)in noisy environments.A study from California Polytechnic University found more hummingbirds in areas with heavy industrial machinery.It is thought that they are capitalizing on their predators(天敌)fleeing to quieter areas.
22.According to Dr Dominoni's study,what causes robins to sing so much?B
A.The breeding season.
B.The light in modem.
C.The dangerous environment.
D.The noise from heavy machinery.
23.What is the researchers'concern over the increase of birds'song output?B
A.The environment might be polluted.
B.The birds'health might be damaged.
C.The industry cost might be increased.
D.The people's hearing might be affected.
24.What does the underlined word"nocturnal"in Paragraph 5mean?A
A.Active at night.
B.Inactive at night.
C.Active during the day.
D.Inactive during the day.
25.Why do some birds thrive in noisy environments?A
A.Because there are fewer dangers.
B.Because there is more food to eat.
C.Because there is less light pollution
D.Because there are more places to take shelter.

David Dominoni,of Glasgow University, said that light from street lamps, take away signs and homes is affecting the birds'biological clock, leading to them being wide awake.(来自Glasgow大学的David Dominoni说来自街灯、外卖标识以及家庭里的灯光正在影响着鸟的生物钟,导致它们醒着)可知本题答案为B选项.
23题答案:B细节理解题.根据文章Singing is a costly behaviour and it takes energy. So by increasing their song output, there might be some costs of energy.(唱歌是种要付出代价的行为,而且耗费精力.因此通过增加歌曲的输出,会消耗一些精力)可知,唱歌唱得越多,就会损耗更多的能量,故选择B.
24题答案:A词义辨析题.根据上文的And it is not just robins that are being kept awake by artificial light.Blackbirds and seagulls are also being.(不仅仅是知更鸟由于人造光而远离,乌鸦和海鸥也如此)可知乌鸦和海鸥情况也一样,也就是说这两种鸟晚上也唱歌,故选择A,指晚上很兴奋.
25题答案:A 细节理解题.根据文章最后一段的It is thought that they are capitalising on their predators(天敌)fleeing to quieter areas.(人们认为它们正在从逃往更加安静的地方的天敌中获利)可知,它们的天敌都去了安静的地方,故选择A,指在这些工业区,天敌更少,也就是危险更少.

6.I was driving home the other day on a sunny afternoon.I had a smile on my face as I sang along to the songs on the radio. It was a beautiful day that I felt full of happiness. My good mood ended, however, when the radio station took a news break between songs. Then suddenly I found myself listening to yet another story of a rich famous man who had broken the law.I shook my head as I came to a red traffic light.
As I pulled to a stop I noticed four leather-jacketed bikers. They were standing in the middle of the road with two on either side of the light. They looked rough and dangerous, but as I got closer I noticed each one was holding their helmet in their hands.I rolled down my window as one approached my car."We are the Brother's of the Wheel",he said."We are collecting money for a Christmas Toy Drive for needy children".As I pulled a dollar out of my wallet I looked past his beard and tattoos and into his eyes. They shined with a goodness and kindness that came right from his soul.I dropped the money in his helmet and waved to the other bikers as I drove off.My good mood had returned. My faith in mankind had been improved. And I had to remember again never to judge people by their appearance.

And every week he cleaned Old Man McColgin's chicken house in exchange for manure(肥料).The Smell really burned the inside of your nose.When we complained about the terrible smell,Dad said the stronger the manure,the healthier the crops,and he was right.For example,just one of his cantaloupes filled the entire house with its sweet smell,and the taste was even sweeter.
As the vegetables started coming in,Dad threw himself into cooking.One day,armed with a basket of vegetables,he announced he was going to make stew(炖菜).Dad pulled out a pressure cooker and filled it up with cabbages,eggplants,potatoes,corns,onions and carrots.For about half an hour,the pressure built and the vegetables cooked.Finally,Dad turned off the stove,the pot began to cool and the pressure relief valve sprayed out a cloud of steam.If we thought Dad's pile of chicken manure was bad,this was 10times worse.When Dad took off the lid,the smell nearly knocked us out.
Dad carried the pot out and we opened doors and windows to air out the house.Just how bad was it?The neighbors came out of their houses to see if we had a gas leak!
Determined,Dad filled our plates with steaming stew and passed them around.It didn't look that bad,and after the first wave had shut down my ability to smell,it didn't offend the nose so much,either.I took a taste.It would never win a prize in a cooking competition,but it was surprisingly edible and we drank up every last drop of soup.

Uniforms today are also becoming a trend and can be seen in many areas of pop culture.Celebrities(名人)and fashion designers are using uniforms as inspiration for new looks which also appeal to students.

Earlier this year, the Centers for Disease Control released its first ever Physical Activity Guidelines for Americans. To get the most from your exercise plan, experts say adults should get at least two and a half hours of exercise each week.More intense(剧烈的) activities reduce the suggested amount of time to one hour and fifteen minutes. And it doesn't matter whether you exercise for short periods in five days or longer time in two or three days.
Most importantly, experts say people should choose physical activity that they find fun. This helps toguaranteethat they stay with the program.According to them, walking tops the list.More than 79 million Americans walk to stay physically fit.Another popular form of exercise is jogging(慢跑).Jogging provides great physical conditioning for the heart and lungs. And it increases the flow of blood and oxygen in the body.Swimming is a third most popular sports activity in the United States.Swimming also presents less risk of muscle and joint injury because of the body's weightlessness in water. This makes it a great choice of exercise for people with special needs, like persons who are overweight.Dancing can also be a fun way to exercise. This is especially true for those who see exercise as a necessary evil.(坏事)

4.What makes a good school?
I'm a parent of two elementary students.The experience that my children are going through now in the elementary school is so different from mine when I was at their age.What I think of a good school is communication between teachers,students and parents.(36)DParent-teacher communication guarantees that a child is educated in the same way and in turn a child will build special bonds in communication between their teachers and parents.
(37)EMy children return home telling me that their teachers ignore their questions when they raise their hands and don't talk much.On the other hand,I feel the same when I write notes to school.(38)AThis is telling me there is a lack in communication from the school teachers nowadays as their life is so overwhelmed by the over-crowded schools we have in the US.
However,choosing a career in education is not just for a good job.A teacher should really have heart in touching every child's life.(39)FEven now,I still remember all my elementary school teachers'names.(40)CThe answer lies in the fact that they spent every minute of their precious time helping me and answering all my questions with patience.When you have teachers who are willing to spend time for any child and communicate with parents,it is what I consider a GREAT school for a child to attend,not just GOOD.
A.I don't get any response from the teachers to my questions,not even a one-word response.
B.There are different ways of communication,according to different cultures.
C.Why is that?
D.Strong communication is very important to a child's education.
E.I feel that schools nowadays don't communicate with parents enough and neither is involvement.
F.My elementary school teachers all touched my life.
G.What do you think of it?
8.In 2009,the number of hungry people in the world reached one billion for the first time.It is difficult not to be shocked by the fact that more than one in seven people on the planet do not have enough to eat.By the end of this year,more than 35million people will have died as a result of_____.Hunger kills more people per year than AIDS and malaria (疟疾) combined.
The UN calculates that almost two-thirds of the world's hungry people are in Asia.More than a quarter are in sub-Saharan Africa.Almost all of the rest are in Latin America,North Africa and the Caribbean.In the richest regions of the world there are only a small number of people who don't have enough to eat.There are many reasons for world hunger. They include wars,droughts,floods and the overuse of farming land.All of them affect food production.But the most important reason is,quite simple,poverty-which has increased recently due to the economic effects of the financial crisis of 2008.
Although many people point out that there would be less hunger if the global population were smaller,few people would argue that there is not enough food to go around.The basic problem seems to be not a lack of food,but its distribution.In the last 50years,global food production has risen even more quickly than the global population and there are of course many areas of the world where people generally have more than enough food.Overweight is a far bigger problem than hunger there.

76.What's the main topic of the passage?(no more than 3words )World hunger
77.Where do most of the hungry people live?(no more than 3words)In Asia.

79.What does the underlined word"they"(line 4,paragraph 2 ) probably refer to?(no more than 6words)The reasons for world hunger
80.What is the suggested way to reduce hunger in Paragraph 3?(no more than 8words )
A proper distribution of food around the world/
Distributing food around the world properly/
To distribute food around the world properly.
