5.How many people have I met who have told me about the book they have been planning to write but have never yet found the time?Far too many. This is Life, all right, but we do treat it like a rehearsal(排演)and, unhappily,we do miss so many of its best moments.
We take jobs to stay alive and provide homes for our families, always making ourselves believe that this style of life is only a temporary(暂时的)state of affairs along the road to what we really want to do.Then,at 60or 65,we are suddenly given a clock and several grandchildren and we look back and realize that all those years waiting for Real Life to come along were in fact real life.
In America they have a saying much laughed at by the English:"Have a nice day."They speak slowly and seriously in their shops, hotels and sandwich bars.I think it is a wonderful phrase, making us remember,in effect,to enjoy the moment:to value this very day.
How often do we say to ourselves,"I'll take up horse-riding(or golf,or sailing)as soon as I get a greater job,"only to do none of those things when we do get the higher position.(职位)
When I first became a reporter I knew a man who gave up a very well-paid respectable job at Daily Telegraph to go and work for a small weekly newspaper. At the time I was surprised by his decision:Why was he in this completely abnormal(反常的)mental(精神)state? How could anyone turn his back on Fleet Street in central London for a small area in the countryside?I wanted to know.
Now when I am a little older and possibly wiser,I see the sense in it.In Fleet Street the man was under continual pressure. He lived in all unattractive London suburb(郊区)and he spent much of his life sitting on Southern Region trains to and back from his work.

由第一段they have been planning to write but have never yet found the time可知,许多人都告诉过作者正在计划写书但是没有时间,可见这段意在揭露人们光说不做的现象.
When I first became a reporter I knew a man who gave up a very well-paid respectable job at Daily Telegraph to go and work for a small weekly newspaper"可得,作者认识的这个人放弃了在 Fleet Street 光鲜的工作而投奔了一个小报社,所以 turn his back on 应为"放弃"之意,故C项正确.A项"动身去…",B项"返回…",D项"依赖于…",均不符合题意.
In Fleet Street the man was under continual pressure"可知,在 Fleet Street 工作压力太大,所以他辞职了,故正确答案为B.
This is Life,all right,but we do treat it like a rehearsal(排演) and,unhappily,we do miss so many of its best moments"可知,作者认为人们错过了很多美好的时刻,应该珍惜每一天,后文举例佐证这一观点,所以C项正确.A项,撑起一个家是作者举的一个例子,与主题无关,所以A项错误.B项,骑马也是作者举的一个例子,表现很多人想找到更好的工作之后再去享受生活,与主题无关,所以B项错误.D项,文中未提及,所以D项错误.
