Remind yourself why you wanted to go to school and take this program in the first place.

◆Turn off the Internet.

The most common things that take your attention away are those found on the Interne-social media sites, and videos. If you do not need the Internet to do your work, turn it off so that you are not receiving notices while completing your work. 3 You can take a break from being connected to the cyber world in order to do your school work. If you feel the need to check messages and websites often, set times when you will allow yourself to do so rather than constantly staying connected.

【5】F

说明G项“Additionally, make a daily schedule in order to reach necessary goals before going to bed. 另外,做好每日计划,今日事今日毕。”与本段主题一致。

【2】D 根据本段后两句:However, when these thoughts arise and you think that getting a pint of beer is a better idea than getting a good grade, remind yourself what the ultimate goal of your schooling is. Remind yourself why you wanted to go to school and take this program in the first place.

If you do not need the Internet to do your work, turn it off so that you are not receiving notices while completing your work. 与本段的主题Turn off the Internet是一致的。

This way, while you are working, you can keep in mind that once you have finished your work you can go out and not worry about your assignments. 故B项“Have something to look forward to对生活有所期待”与文章大意一致。

Being productive for all hours of every, day does not work-you do need breaks, and as a student you have the right to have a lot of fun. 也就是说要让自己劳逸结合,故F项“So plan time to go out with friends or do something relaxing.”

Many people have long dreamed of being able to fly around as simply as riding a bicycle. Yet the safety and strength of a flying bike was always a big problem.

Over the past 10 years, developments in technology have moved the dream of personal flying vehicles closer to reality. Now, two groups of inventors say such vehicles may be available very soon.

Grant Stapleton from Malloy Aeronautics says the Hoverbike, which is able to get in and out of small spaces very quickly, will be a truly personal flying vehicle. "It can be moved across continents very quickly because it can be folded and packed," he adds.

Mr. Stapleton says safety was the company's main concern when developing the Hoverbike. He ays the designers solved the safety issue by using overlapping rotors (折叠旋翼) to power the vehicle. The company is testing both a one-third size model and a full-size prototype (原型) of the Hoverbike.

Inventors say their Hoverbike will most likely be used first by the police and emergency rescue teams.

In New Zealand, the Martin Aircraft Company is also testing a full-size prototype of its personal flying bike, called Jetpack. It can fly for more than 30 minutes, up t0 1,000 meters high and reach a speed of 74 kilometers per hour.

Peter Coker is the CEO of Martin Aircraft Company. He said Jetpack "is built around safety from the start, " In his words, "reliability is the most important part of it. We have safety built into the actual structure itself, very similar to a Formula One racing car. "

Jetpack uses a gasoline-powered engine that produces two powerful jet streams. Mr. Coker says it also has a parachute (降落伞) that can be used should there be an emergency.

"It opens at a very low altitude and actually saves both the aircraft and the pilot in an emergency," he adds.

How to Help a Teenager Make Good Decisions

Habitually poor decision making is actually common in teenagers. Naturally, such a habit makes parent-teen cooperation difficult, especially when a parent wants his teen to do what a " responsible adolescent" would do. A poor decision-making teenager can never run away from his responsibilities. 【1】

Distinguish real problems from acts of pure "teenagerism". Teens often make poor decisions simply because they don-t have the experiences. By making small and harmless mistakes, like a recently- developed habit of careless consuming, a teen learns good decision-making skills on his own via self-correction.__2】 Don't think the teen is making bad decisions just to challenge you. It's more likely it is out of a real inability to determine what's best for him.

3】 Tell your teen you understand his decisions while simply emphasizing that you don't have to agree with his decisions or treat his views as valid. By not judging his opinions, tastes or style, you are opening the road for better communication and problem solving opportunities.

- Set clear expectations. 4】 For example, if your teen refuses to study for his math final because "math is pointless," explain that you expect him to perform well in school, even in the "pointless" classes. Because you've already tolerated his opinion without trying to change his viewpoint, you two can easily agree that math isn't so useful, yet avoid saying "Let's just give up on math, then."

Find a middle ground. Trade insignifican freedoms, such as clothing style for the promise that he'll live up to academic and family responsibilities. 5_ Not only does giving up a bit of control solve many conflicts, but the extra freedom you give him can also improve his decision-making.

A.Show tolerance.

B. Learn to solve problems.

C. Point out your expectations and his responsibilities.

D. If your teen could realize it, allow him to be himself.

E. A responsible adolescent must have role models to learn from.

F. Therefore, it’s important to guide them with problem-solving strategies.

G. Next time, he'll be more likely to think twice before making his buying decision.

【题目】“The first and best of victories for a man is to conquer himself; to be conquered by himself is, of all things, the most shameful,” says Plato. Self-control is at the root of all the advantages. Let a man give in to his impulses (冲动) and feelings, and from that moment he gives up his moral freedom.

A single angry word has lost many friends. When Socrates found in himself any temper or anger, he would check it by speaking low in order to control himself. If you are conscious of being angry, keep your mouth shut so that you can hold back rising anger. Many a person has dropped dead in great anger. Fits of anger bring fits of disease. “Whoever the gods would destroy, they first make them mad.” “Keep cool,” says Webster, “anger is not argument.” “Be calm in arguing,” says George Herbert, “for fierceness (狂怒) makes error a fault.”

To be angry with a weak man is to prove that you are not strong yourself. “Anger,” says Pythagoras, “begins with foolishness and ends with regret.” You must measure the strength of a man by the power of the feelings he conquers, not by the power of those which conquer him.

Self-control is man’s last and greatest victory.

If a man lacks self-control he seems to lack everything. Without it he can have no patience, no power to govern himself; he can have no self-confidence, for he will always be controlled by his strongest feeling. If he lacks self-control, the very backbone and nerve of character are lacking too.

【1What’s the main idea of the passage?

A. Self- control is important for a man.

B. We should learn to be strong.

C. A man who keeps cool won’t lose any game.

D. The great heroes in history knew how to control themselves.

2What does the underlined sentence in Paragraph 2 mean?

A. If you are mad, the gods will fail you.

B. If you lose your temper first, gods will fail you first.

C. If you can’t control yourself, you will be crazy.

D. If the gods want to fail you, they will make you mad first.

3Which of the following is NOT true, according to passage?

A. The first and best of victories for a man is to conquer himself.

B. You will make a small mistake serious if you don’t keep cool.

C. You must measure a man’s strength by the power of the feelings which conquer him.

D. Anger begins with foolishness and ends with regret.

4Which of the following can’t help you avoid anger, according to the passage?

A. Being calm in arguing.

B. Checking your temper or anger by speaking low.

C. Keeping your mouth shut.
