读写任务(满分25分)

阅读下面的短文,然后按照要求写一篇150词左右的英语短文。

An earthquake happened in Bam(伊朗的巴姆市) on December 26, 2003. About 30,000 people were killed and more were injured. Many of those killed by the earthquake died only because of poor building methods and a lack of proper regulation.

In Iran, as in many developing countries, earthquake that ought to be survivable(不致命的)often bring human disaster because buildings collapse (倒塌) on top of people. Two days before Christmas, California was struck by an earthquake similar in magnitude (强度) to the one that hit Iran Saturday, but only three people died, thanks largely to safer construction methods. A quake measuring 8.0 caused just 500 injuries and no deaths in Japan in September 2003.

Bam, however, was a disaster waiting to happen. Efforts to bring industrial development to what was a backward agricultural area caused a population boom (激增)and a shortage of housing, which local builders tried to meet with cheap homes, or by adding extra floors to existing houses. Many buildings collapse [even] without earthquakes, because of the poor construction.

【答案】

The Bam earthquake on December 26,2003 caused about 30,000 deaths and more injuries mainly because of the poorly built homes 。but similar kind of earthquakes that happened in the U.S  and Japan caused much fewer or no deaths at all。

In my opinion ,the disaster could have been avoided ,for earthquakes of similar magnitude that happened in California and Japan didn’t cause such a serious human disaster。

The first reason why the disaster that happened in Iran caused such heavy damage is that to make money the builders just used poor methods ,which would save them the cost ,the second is that there was lack of proper regulation。

I think the most important measure to take is that the government should make a law to make sure that the builders use advanced methods and high-quality building material to build the houses. If they break the law, they should be punished. Besides the government can also try to build some houses and rent the rooms at a lower price to the people who cannot afford to buy a house.

I think these are ways that can help us avoid such disaster.

读写任务(满分25分)

阅读下面的短文,然后按照要求写一篇150词左右的英语短文。

I started thinking about this issue at my brother-in-law's 60th birthday party last Saturday. Before we ate the main meal we sat around a table that was loaded with large bowls of snack items - chocolate-covered peanuts, cherries(樱桃), and a few other things. The eater had to reach into the bowl and grab a handful of snacks and then convey them to the mouth with the other hand. A lot of people were strangers to me and I observed a cat being carried around, a dog being petted, and a number of noses being blown, between eating handfuls of snacks. Ugh!

I started thinking about Chinese table manners. My wife and I will share things from the same plate or cup but we always put serving spoons out with the dishes on the table. We don't frequently use them, though. In my family we use our personal chopsticks to take food from the serving dishes. But we are careful and only touch the food we will eat ourselves.

I have heard of some people who use two sets of chopsticks, one for eating, and one for serving. I have also seen some people who invert their chopsticks, that is, to serve other people with the other ends that haven't touched their lips.

[阅读材料]
The way people hold the belief that a fun-filled, pain-free lifestyle equals happiness actually reduces their chances of ever obtaining real happiness. If fun and pleasure are equal to happiness, then pain must be equal to unhappiness. But in fact, the opposite is true: more often than not things that lead to happiness contain some pain.
As a result, many people avoid the very attempts that are the source of true happiness. They fear the pain inevitably (不可避免地) brought by such things as marriage, raising children, professional achievement, religious commitment, self-improvement.
Ask a bachelor why he resists marriage even though he finds dating to be less and less satisfying. If he is honest,he will tell you that he is afraid of making a commitment, for commitment is in fact quite painful. The single life is filled with fun, adventure and excitement.Marriage has such moments, but they are not its most distinguishing features.
Couples, with infant children, are lucky to get a whole night’s sleep of a three-day vacation. We don’t know any parent who would choose the word fun to describe raising children. But couples that decide not to have children ever know the joys of watching a child grow up or playing with a grandchild.

Understanding and accepting that true happiness has nothing to do with fun is one of the most liberating realizations. It liberates time: now we can devote more hours to activities that can really increase our happiness. It liberates money: buying that new car or those fancy clothes to increase our happiness now seems pointless. And it liberates us from envy: we now understand that all those who always have so much fun actually may not be happy at all.

读写任务 (满分25分)
阅读下面的短文,按照要求写一篇150词左右的短文。
I have a friend who always smiles even when he’s angry. He even smiles when he has got a headache. I ask him about it and this is the answer, “I try to smile even when I’m breathing or even when I’m sad. Smile is good for your health.”
I’m not a medical student, so I don’t know if there is a medical explanation for why smiling is healthy. But my friend looks younger than his age, maybe because of his habit of smiling. He is a funny, nice, and happy person. He handles all the problems that come to him with a patient smile. He’s not a person in a hurry. His life seems so relaxing but I know for sure, his life is full of problems and his job is full of deadlines, as he lives in a big expensive city on a middle salary… I think hurry and stress is normal, but not for him. He keeps smiling.
I try to do it. I have learnt to smile and it’s fun. Every time a problem comes to me, or I’m stressed, or I’m upset, I try to smile.
