If you want to become a fluent English speaker you should take some advice. There are four skills in learning English. They are reading, listening, speaking, and writing. The most important thing you must remember is that if you want to improve your speaking and writing skills you should first master the skills of reading and listening.

Read as much as you can. But your reading must be active. It means that you must think about the meaning of the sentences, the meaning of the unfamiliar words, etc. There is no need for you to pay much attention to grammar or try to understand all the unfamiliar words you come across, but the fact that you see them for the first time and recognize them whenever you see them, for example in other passages or books, is enough. It would be better to prepare yourself a notebook so you can write down the important words or sentences in it.

As for listening, there are two choices: besides reading, you can listen every day for about 30 minutes. You can only pay attention to your reading and become skillful at your reading, then you can catch up on your listening. Since you have lots of inputs in your mind, you can easily guess what the speaker is going to say. This never means that you should not practice listening.

For listening, you can listen to cartoons or some movies that are specially made for children. Their languages are easy. Or if you are good at listening you can listen to VOA or BBC programs every day. Again the thing to remember is being active in listening and preferably taking some notes.

If you follow these pieces of advice, your speaking and writing will improve automatically, and you can be sure that with a little effort they will become perfect.

An international study of more than 13, 000 adults found that many people say modern technology has affected relations with their partners. Almost 40 percent of those questioned said their partners paid more attention to their mobile devices than to them.

The research included both old and new relationships. Thirty-three percent of those asked reported that they had to compete against a mobile device for attention on a first date.

Apparently, we have as much love for our digital devices as for the people we love. The survey found that adults spend almost equal amounts of time online at home as they do interacting directly. And a lot of married couples, friends and family members argue about time spent on mobile devices.

Rules or time limits on a device might be good, in theory. However, the survey found that 45 percent of those questioned do not set rules. Another 45 percent said they got into arguments about how much they are on their phones when spending time with loved ones. The lack of social rules about digital behavior might be the result of the newness of the issue.

Past generations did not have the technologies. In this situation, our elders know nothing. In fact, the knowledge and ability is moving towards the youngest generation thats using the technology because theyre the ones bounding forward fearlessly, and finding out what ways they can get in trouble.

That trouble may include the sharing of sensitive information. The research found nearly 30 percent of couples share passwords to social media sites. This could be a problem when relationships end.

The study advises that people step away from electronic devices to truly connect with other people. Understand the value of distancing yourself from your device and allow yourself to be engaged with that person that means the most to you.

【1】What did the study find about modern technology?

A. People disagree with limiting mobile use.

B. Rules need to be made to limit mobile use.

C. The majority of users set rules to use a device.

【4】What can be the best title for the text?

【题目】B

I used to believe courtesy was a thing of the past. Very seldom have I encountered a courteous human being in this modern era.

Recently, I had to change my thinking when I came face to face with just such a human being in a coffee place, with my two daughters. The place was crowded as usual and we had to climb steep(陡峭的) stairs in order to find an empty table. After enjoying coffee and snacks, we went down the narrow stairs, where there was hardly any space for another person to either climb up or come down.

Just as I was in the middle of the stairs, a gentleman entered the main entrance of the restaurant which was right in front of the staircase(楼梯). I was sure I would be pushed roughly by this man going up. I kept coming down as fast as I could. My daughters were already down, looking up at me worriedly, hoping I would reach them before the stranger started walking up the stairs, knowing I was a nervous sort.

Nearly reaching them, I noticed the man still standing near the door. I reached my daughters and passed the stranger at the entrance door which he kept holding open. I looked back thinking he was still at the door, deciding whether to go in or find another less crowded place. I saw him going up the stairs, two at a time. I told my daughters about it and all three of us felt bad that we did not even thank the courteous gentleman who was actually holding the door open for us ladies to pass through before going up.

Such well-mannered people are hard to find these days, when pushing is very common in our advanced but aggressive society. We applauded for his chivalry(骑士精神).

A. He was in a hurry. B. He would wait for her.

C. He would pass her rudely. D. He was a man with good manners.

【3】Why did the authors daughters worry about her?

A. She was easy to be nervous. C. She took up too much space.

B. She was too old to walk fast. D. She focused too much on the man.

【4】 What can we learn about the man from Paragraph 4?

A. He might be a waiter of the café.

B. He might have an urgent business to do.

C. He loved a daughter of the author.

D. He would hold the door open for all.

Sharks have lived in the world’s oceans for millions of years. A shark has a very good sense of smell. It can find small amounts of substances in water, such as blood, body liquids and chemicals produced by animals. These powerful senses help sharks find their food. 1

Sharks grow slowly. About forty percent of all sharks lay eggs. 2 Some sharks carry their young inside their bodies as humans do. Some sharks are not able to reproduce until they are twenty years old. Most reproduce only every two years. And they give birth to fewer than ten young sharks. For this reason, over-fishing of sharks is of special danger to the future of the animal.

3 They eat injured and diseased fish. Their hunting activities mean that the numbers of other fish in ocean waters do not become too great. This protects the plants and other forms of life that exist in the oceans.

People hunt sharks for sport, food, medicine and their skin. Experts say the international market for some kinds of sharks has increased because many parts of a shark are valuable. 4 Shark liver oil is a popular source of Vitamin. The skin of a shark can be used like leather. In Asia, people enjoy a kind of soup made from shark fins. Experts say a fisherman can earn a lot of money for even one kilogram of shark fins.

Sharks are among the oldest animals on Earth. 5 If too many sharks in one area are killed, the group of sharks may never return to normal population levels.

A. The others give birth to their young.

B. Sharks are important for the world’s oceans.

C. This is a threat to other forms of life in the ocean.

D. Collectors pay thousands of dollars for the jaws of a shark.

E. But some sharks are in danger of disappearing from Earth.

F. Sharks are valuable to us and we can make full use of them.

G. Sharks eat fish, other sharks, and plants that live in the ocean.
