The Lantern Festival(元宵节) falls on the 15th day of the 1st lunarmonth,  usually in February
or March. As early as the Western HanDynasty (206 BC～25 AD) ,  it  had  become  afestival with
great meaning.    
    Yuanxiao is the special food for the LanternFestival. (2) It is believed that Yuanxiao is namedafter
a palace maid(宫女) ,  Yuan Xiao, of EmperorWudi of the Han Dynasty. Yuanxiao is a kind ofsweet
dumpling, which is made with sticky riceflour filled with sweet stuffing. And the Festival isnamed after
the famous dumpling. It is very easy tocook-simply dump them in a pot of boiling waterfor a few minutes
and eat them as a dessert.    
    "Guessing lantern riddles" is an importantpart of the Festival. (3) Lantern owners writeriddles on
