The label(标签), Made in China, is one that is becoming increasing common in shopping centers all over the world.

In the United States, shoppers at Wal-Mart, the nation’s largest retailer(零售商), have a wide selection of products mostly produced in China. The large amount of Chinese imports have created a large selection of goods in other countries as people begin to buy more and more products made in China. These goods are even widely available in other Asian nations, where Chinese-made goods are quite popular. Chinese brand names are also becoming more well-known outside China.

When Chinese Americans visit family and friends in their homeland, gifts from the U.S. are a must. But TVs and fashionable clothes aren't rare any more, and anything 'Made in China' shouldn’t be considered in any case.

"When I decide to visit my family members in China, I will have a big headache. What should I buy for them? They may not all speak English, but everyone in China knows those three words," a Chinese American said. "When they see the label 'Made in China,' they will think, 'Why do you send me this?' "

The development of China has surprised the world with its growth. As a result, the other countries are beginning to try to reduce Chinese goods with the use of taxes(税)and import restrictions. However, the development on the Chinese economy still affects the world in many ways.

3.How do other countries try to reduce the Chinese goods in their own countries?

A. By developing the qualities of their own products.

Have you ever thought of such questions as “Why do I have to study math?”or “I am not interested in history at all. My dream is to be an actor. Should I give up history?”

Maybe you are right. After you leave school, it’s not necessary for you to understand everything. But please remember that at school, besides getting knowledge, you should pay attention to some other important things.

First, try to find what you are most interested in. At school, you study many subjects. Try to find what you like and what you don’t like. This may be helpful to you in the future.

Second, maybe you don’t like math and you want to drop it. But the logical thinking ability from math can help you solve some problems. At school, you should practice your brain by thinking.

Third, you should believe in yourself. Maybe you learn French at school, but you don’t need to speak French at all. But learning French can prove that you have the ability of learning languages. Suppose you go to France one day and find a good job well. At school I learned French well, and now I must be able to learn German. But if you have no confidence, what will happen?

Try to challenge yourself as often as possible. I think many of us like playing computer games. When we fail in a game, we always want to try it again. Why? Because it is hard for us to get the highest mark. If we want to challenge ourselves, we must face more difficult things and make greater progress.

4.Learning French can help us ___________ .

A. have confidence in learning languages B. go to France

C. get a good result in the exam D. make greater progress

Where is Love? How can we find Love? Once a little boy wanted to meet Love. He knew it was a long trip to where Love lived, so he got his things ready with some pizzas and drinks and started off. When he passed three streets, he saw an old woman sitting in the park and watching some birds. She looked very hungry. The boy gave her a pizza. She took it and smiled at him. The smile was so beautiful that he wanted to see it again, so he gave her a Coke. Once again she smiled. The boy was very happy.

They sat there all afternoon, eating and smiling, but they said nothing. When it grew dark, the boy decided to leave. But before he had gone more than a few steps, he turned around, ran back to the old woman and gave her a hug. The woman gave him her biggest smile ever.

When the boy opened the door of his house, his mother was surprised by the look of joy(快乐) on his face and asked what had made him so happy. “I had lunch with Love. She has got the most beautiful smile in the world.”

At the same time, the old woman’s son was also surprised at his mother’s pleasure and asked why. “I ate a pizza in the park with Love,” she said, “and he is much younger than I expected.”

Deciding what to wear in the morning is a challenge for some people. We often worry about what others will think of us because of our clothes. But researchers are beginning to think that our clothing has an equally powerful effect on how we see ourselves.

Scientists Adam Galinsky and Hajo Adams report that there is science behind our style. In their research,Galinsky and Adams had some participants(参与者)wear white lab coats similar to the ones scientists or doctors wear. Other participants wore their normal clothes. The participants took a test that surveyed their ability to pay attention. In the experiment, participants saw cards with different-colored words on them. They had to say the color of the word they saw,not the word itself. The people wearing the white lab coats said the correct color of the word more often.

Galinsky and Adams think that the white coats made the participants feel more confident and careful. The researchers also believe that other kinds of "symbolic" clothes can influence the behavior of the people wearing them. A police officer's uniform or a judge's robe, for example, increases the wearer's feelings of power or confidence. And in workplaces that have a dress code,"symbolic" clothes may also affect how well employees do their jobs.

Fashion blogger Jessica Quirk believes that our clothes greatly affect how we feel about ourselves. According to Quirk,"There is joy and luck and confidence in what we wear. " On her blog called "What I wore," Quirk posts a photo of what she's wearing every day. She says that people should pay more attention to what they wear. For example,we should choose a look that makes us feel more creative and happy. One way to do this at work is to "dress up for the exciting job we want," she says,"not the boring job we have. " Another way is to wear special clothes that mean something to us. For example,Quirk wears one special pair of shoes to all her important meetings. They are her "lucky" shoes.

As Quirk points out-and as researchers have discovered-our clothes are "like our second skin. " The clothes we wear can affect our behavior. They can also tell the world something about us,without us having to say a word.

d. the researchers gave some participants white coats to wear.

A. d,c,a,b B. d,a,c,b C. b,a,c,d D. b,c,a,d

3.What is the main idea of the passage?

A. The clothes we wear can affect how we feel.

There are two ways of driving in the world: if the driver's seat is on the left and cars travel on the right side of the road, it is called "left-hand driving", as it is in China, while the other way of driving is called "right-hand driving", as it is in Britain. Nowadays, around 65% of the world's population drives on the right of the road, while the rest is used to driving on the left.

Though no one knows the exact reasons, it seems likely that people in ancient times travelled on the left of the road. Roman coins show pictures of horsemen passing on each other's right. And right-hand people generally got on a horse from the animal's left. Obviously, it's safer to do this at the left side of the road, and it makes sense(行得通)for the horse to be ridden on the left.

A change happened in the late 1700s. When Napoleon(拿破仑)conquered(攻占)nations, he forced them to travel on the right side of the road, which spread left-hand driving throughout Europe. However, Britain still stuck with the right-hand driving rule and countries which were part of the British Empire were made to follow. This is why India, Australia and the former British colonies(前英国殖民地)in Africa continue to drive on the left. One exception(例外)is Egypt, as that country was defeated(打败)by Napoleon before becoming part of the British Empire.

Some countries changed sides until modern times. Sweden only moved to driving on the right in 1967 and Iceland changed the following year. Ghana changed sides in 1974. On September 7, 2009, Samoa became the third country ever to change from left-to-right-hand driving for the reason that it made it easier to import(进口) cheap cars from right-hand driving Japan, Australia and New Zealand.

So if you want to travel to another country or go on business, make sure you know whether it is left-or right-hand driving to avoid unnecessary troubles.

1.Which picture shows the correct driving in Britain?

A. B. C. D.

2.Which of the following is TRUE according to the passage?

A. Sweden changed to drive on the right in 1974.

B. People drive on the left side of the road in Egypt.

C. People have known the exact reasons for driving on the left.

D. Napoleon helped with the spread of left-hand driving.

3.What is the writer's purpose for writing this passage?

A. To explain the advantages of the two ways of driving.

B. To introduce the development of the two ways of driving.

C. To complain about the change of the two ways of driving.

D. To compare the differences of the two ways of driving.

There is an old story about a king and his daughter. The king asked his daughter how much she loved him. She said that she loved him as much as she loved salt. Her answer made the king sad. Salt is a simple thing, and it is very common. So the king thought his daughter didn't care about him. But the king was wrong. Salt might be common, but it is very important. Throughout history, salt has caused wars. So why do people care so much about salt?

Salt has many uses. Our bodies need salt. If we don't have enough, our body can't work properly. We put salt on icy roads to make them safe. We also use salt to produce other products. Products like paper, glass, rubber and soap depend on salt. But for many years, salt's most important job was preserving(保存)food.

Like other living things, most bacteria(细菌)that cause food to spoil need water to survive. Salt absorbs large amounts of water, so most bacteria cannot live in a salty environment. As a result, salt has the ability to preserve almost anything. For much of human history, this ability has made salt treasured. Every ancient culture from Egypt to China depended on salt. Even today, we compare hardworking, useful people to salt by calling them "the salt of the earth".

For centuries, salt was also hard to get. The combination(组合)of usefulness and rarity made it extremely expensive. Since almost everyone needed salt, the salt trade was an important business. Salt could even be used like money. In fact, the word salary(工资)comes from the word salt. And valuable people are still described as being "worth their salt." Today, salt is easy to get. It is no longer expensive, but it is still both important and useful.

1.In the first paragraph, the writer is trying to make readers .

A. become interested in the old story B. understand the importance of salt

C. fall in love with salt D. understand the daughter's love to salt

2.Which of the following is NOT true according to the article?

A. Salt is very common, but it has many uses.

B. Salt was so valuable that it was once used like money.

C. Although salt is cheap now, it's still important and useful

D. We can use salt to produce all the products we need.

3.What's the meaning of the underlined word "rarity"?

A. the quality of being rare B. the quality of being important

C. the quality of being common D. the quality of being useful
