Rita was in shopping mall, looking for a gift for her little daughter. Suddenly she stopped before a store, inside which were all kinds of dolls.
“Why not a lovely doll? Girls like dolls,” she thought as she stepped into the store.
Looking around ,she saw a grandma doll—one with gray and a pair of glasses. As she gazed at it, in her mind somehow appeared Linda, her mother.
When Rita was a little girl, she got her first doll form Linda for her birthday. She was very happy. Then the second, the third……,Rita began to feel puzzled, When she asked her mum the reason, the answer was always “A girl can never have enough dolls.” Year after year, Rita grew up and Linda aged, but a doll a year from Linda never arrived late.
“But why always a doll?” This question had been in Rita’s mind until one day her father gave the answer.
Little Linda dreamed to have a doll. Her parents promised one for her fifth birthday. Sadly, they both died in a traffic accident before it arrived .The never—received gift was the most precious* in her eyes. That’s why she thought dolls were the best birthday gifts for Rita.
Her mother’s story being recalled ,Rita got an idea……
It was Linda’s sixtieth birthday. The whole family gathered around the sixty-year-old lady when the doorbell rang, Much to Linda’s surprise ,a package was delivered* to her, with a card read:
Dear Linda,

Sorry for the lateness!                                                             Love,                                                 Angel of Joy
Linda opened the package and saw a lovely grandma doll. She clasped the doll that she had waited so many years to receive ,tears coursing down her face. The doll, given by “Angel of Joy”, made her the happiest “child ”alive .

On 22nd January, 2007, Dave Cornthwaite from the UK became the first person to skateboard across Australia. He made a new world record, by skating a total of 5,823 kilometers. Jack Smith, the previous (前任的) champion, had skated a total of 4,830 kilometers across the US in 2003. Dave’s journey started in Perth and ended in Brisbane traveling about 60 kilometers a day. It took him five months and 13 pairs of shoes. He had great physical pain and he got really sore feet.
If Dave hadn’t believed in making his dreams come true, none of this would have happened. Dave left his job two weeks after he had bought a skateboard and decided to go on a journey. He wanted this journey to be about something more than him, so he created an association that would raise money for charities. “If people follow my journey and donations, then I’m doing many people a lot of good,” said Dave. This journey had plenty of challenges. He traveled across the Australian desert (沙漠) where temperatures reached 48℃ in the day and 0℃ at night. He had a serious accident in Adelaide when he jumped on a piece of metal that cut through his foot.
Dave helped raise more than £50,000 for children’s charities, wrote a book and encouraged others to follow in his footsteps. I wish we had more people like him leading the way!

Christmas Love
Each December, I promised to make Christmas a relaxed and peaceful experience. I didn’t spend too much time on card writing, endless cooking and decorating. Yet still, I found myself tired, unable to enjoy the valuable family moments, and of course, to understand the true meaning of        .
Christmas came again. My son, Nicholas, was in primary school that year. It was a very          season for a six-year-old. For weeks, he’d been memorizing songs for his school’s “Winter Celebration.” All the parents were invited to be present at their show.
I didn’t have the heart to tell him I’d be working. Unwilling to          his shining moment, I spoke with his teacher. She told me there’d be a dress rehearsal(彩排) the morning of the presentation. All           unable to be present that evening were welcome to come then.
So, on the           of the dress rehearsal, I arrived ten minutes early. Around the room, I saw several other parents. Because the public school system had long stopped referring to the holiday as “Christmas”, I didn’t          anything other than fun. So, when my son’s class rose to sing “Christmas Love”, I was a little bit surprised by its title.
Nicholas was excited, as were all of his classmates. Those in the front row held up large letters, one by one, to         out the title of the song. As the class would sing “C is for Christmas,” a child would hold up the letter C. Then, “H is for Happy,” and on and on         all the children presented the complete message “Christmas Love”.
The show was going smoothly, until suddenly, a small, quiet, girl in the front row held the letter “M” upside down — totally not knowing her letter “M” appeared as a “W”. The audience(观众) laughed at this little girl’s        . But she had no idea why they were laughing at her, so she stood tall,          holding her “W”. The laughter continued until the last letter was raised, and we all saw it together. A sudden          came over the audience and eyes began to widen. At that moment, we understood why we were there and why we        the holiday.
For when the last letter was held high, the message read loud and clear: “CHRIST WAS LOVE”.
