Thank you for joining CCTV9’s Around China show! Now it's 8:45 p. m. Today we are talking about Earth Hour. Earth Hour started in Sydney on March31,2007. More than 2,2 million homes and businesses turned off their lights for an hour. A year later, on March29, Earth Hour became a global activity and was supported by 50 million people from 35 countries. On March 28, 2009, over 2,100 cities in 88 countries took part in it, in the same year, Earth Hour came to China. This year, many people in China turned off their lights for one hour.
This activity aims to save energy and improve climate. We have different ways to spend the dark hour such as having dinner with our family in the candlelight or sharing stories with our friends.
