The little boy entered the house, unhappy. His mother was making cakes in the kitchen. She smiled as she turned around, but       when she saw his face, “Tyler,      happened? Is everything okay?”
“Nothing is okay, Mom.” said the boy, “Today in our science lesson, Mrs Green was talking about the        .She said that the whole world is getting dirtier and that many animals and plants are        .She wants us to think of something we can do to help them.I thought all the way home. But there is nothing I can do to make a difference.”
“ Let me tell you a story,” the mother said after thinking for a while. “One morning a man was walking down a beach, there he saw        dying starfish covering the beach, they were pushed up by the waves and it was too far up for them to make their way back by themselves. The man shook his head as he walked along. ‘What a pity! So many starfish will die on the beach.’ The man felt very        for those starfish. He went on walking and just at that time he was         to find a boy in front who was throwing the starfish back into the sea as        as he could.‘How silly you are! My son,’ the man said, ‘there are so many starfish, can you throw all of them back?’ The boy didn’t stop but kept throwing. ‘Though I can’t help them all, I can help this one,and this one, and this one.’ said the boy. Thinking for a moment, the man        to help return the starfish to their home. He smiled and said to himself ‘Sometimes the biggest lesson in life comes from the        person.’”

It may seem easy to say that plants and animals are different. Any child can tell the difference between  a tree and a dog. But those differences are far deeper than just what they look like. The cells (细胞) that plants are made up of are different. In other words, the cell wall of plants has something special.

First of all, it's important to find that not all plant cells have a cell wall. Besides, there are many differences of a cell wall based on the kinds of plant. The following is meant to be what a plant cell wall is  like.
The cell wall of a plant is on the outside of the cell membrane (膜). It is usually hard and cannot be bent easily, but the degree of flexibility (韧性) of the cell wall is different. It is based on the special use that the cell has in keeping the plant alive. Cells that make up the trunk of a tree are clearly less flexible than  cells on a leaf.
Cell walls act in many ways. They serve to protect the plant. They provide support, as well as help in the movement of chemicals and wastes into and out of the cell.  More importantly, they control the water  that goes in and out.  Plants must have good water controlling systems (系统), allowing them to keep water during dry seasons, and get rid of unnecessary water. Plants can't walk around to find water, so  being able to control water is very important.
So there you have it , what a plant cell wall is. Of course, there are many other things that are not talked about here. Knowing more about plant cell wails requires further study and research.

Skin Diving     Interesting & Useful
Skin-diving, a new sport today, takes you into a wonderful new world! It is like a visit to the moon!
When under water, it is easy for you to climb big rocks because you are no longer heavy, much lighter than on land!
Here, under water, everything is green and blue. During the day, there is plenty of light. When fish swim nearby, you can catch them with your hands!
With a tank of air on your back, you can stay in deep water for a long time, but you must be careful when you dive in deep water.
To catch fish is one of the most interesting parts of the sports. Besides, there’re more uses for skin diving. You can clean and repair ships without taking them out of water. You can get many things from the deep sea.

For a long time, humans have used technology (科技) to study the world around us, and Mars is the latest place we’re using machines to explore. Besides the earth, the “red planet” is seen, as the one place in our solar system most likely to have life.
Early last month, the first American robot, Spirit, landed on Mars without any problem. Opportunity, the second robot, landed on the planet more than a week ago. Scientists are very excited about these machines’ safe landing on Mars. It means that now we have an excellent chance to look for water and other signs of life. So far, the robots have found some stones that could show Mars was once a wet and warm planet.
But the trips made by Spirit and Opportunity were dangerous. Mars is often called the “death planet”, because in the past its environment has been unfriendly to the robot explorers. Before Spirit and Opportunity, nearly forty spaceships had been sent to Mars since the 1960s. Two-thirds of them failed. The first spaceship, Korabl, sent in 1962 by Russia was among them. It broke apart (分裂) near the earth.

January 16, 2014 – We know the saying “The early bird gets the worm”, but today you’re going to  learn about the interesting saying “The early fish gets the bird.”
An African tigerfish(老虎鱼) was seen jumping out of the air and catching a flying bird. The African tigerfish has bright red fins and very sharp teeth. There have been rumors(传闻) this kind of fish preys on(捕食) birds since the 1940s, but no one was able to catch one.
"The whole action of jumping and catching happens so quickly that after we saw it, it took all of us a moment to really understand what we had just seen," said Nico Smit from Environmental Sciences and Management at North-West University.
Smit and his research team saw it at a lake in the Mapungubwe National Park in South Africa during summer. They found about 20 fish feeding on birds in the morning. Those birds may be out early to look for food, but we will never know for sure!

A fish that lives in America can live out of water for months at a time, similar to how animals got used to land millions of years ago, a new study shows.
The Mangrove Rivulets, a kind of little fish, lives in small pools of water. When their living place dries up, they live on the land, said Scott Taylor, a researcher in Florida.
The fish can grow as large as three inches. They group together and breathe air through their skin before they can find water again.
The new scientific discovery came during a trip.
“We were travelling for fun. and one day I kicked over a log (圆木) and the fish came out.” Taylor told reporters by telephone. He said he would make his study on the fish known to the public in an American magazine early next year.
In lab tests, Taylor said he found the fish can live up to 66 days out of water without eating.
Some other fish can live out of water for a short period of time. The walking catfish found in Southeast Asia can stay on land for hours at a time, while lungfish (肺鱼) found in Australia, Africa and South America can live out of water, but only in a not active (活波的) way. But no other known fish can be out of water as long as the Mangrove Rivulets and keep active, according to Patricia Wright, a biologist at a Canadian University.&科
More studies of the fish may tell how animals changed over time.
“These animals live in conditions similar to those millions of years ago, when animals began to move from water onto land.” Wright said.

In real life, robots are mainly used in factories. They do many different jobs. Usually these jobs are too       , difficult or boring for humans.
Robots also help disabled people and people who cannot look after       . For example, scientists are making a robot to help        people. Now many of them have a dog to help them. The dog is called a guide dog. In the future, guide dogs might be robot dogs.
One robot dog is called Meldog. It has wheels. It usually “walks”        its owner. It is very clever. It knows the speed of its owner’s walk. Meldog talks to its owner by       . The owner wears a special belt. This belt        instructions to the owner from Meldog such as “Stop here”, “Turn left” and “Turn right”.
In the United States, another        of robot helps disabled workers. This robot, called Kilroy, helps disabled computer operators. The robot        the sound of its owner’s voice. It follows instructions such as “Turn the page” and “Make a cup of coffee”.
Robots are also used in American       . They can do simple jobs. For example, they shave (刮脸) patients and brush their teeth and take meals from the kitchen to patients’ rooms. It never gets lost        this robot has a map of the hospital in its computer memory.
