The woman who had gone in an hour earlier came out可知,那位女士是在James之前进去面试的,故填before。beside 在...旁边;with 和...一起;after在...
He felt so nervous that,James感到很紧张,那么那位女士不像James,也就是不紧张,即充满自信。
The problem was that he wanted this job so much可知,James 非常想得到这个工作,我们可以知道James在参加的是一个工作的面试,故应该填job。
The problem was that he wanted this job so much可知,James非常想得到这个工作,故这个工作应该是对他来说很重要,也就是意味着一切。
故选A。
But no—he had to do this,但是不行,不能放弃,他必须要参加这个面试。
give in 屈服,投降,让步;give out 分发,精疲力尽;give up 放弃;give away 捐赠。

It seems that women and beauty go together.  I think so.  Look around yourself. Fashion ads are almost everywhere.  Whether they have realized or not, a sea of. fashion is all around women.  They are made to think that without beautiful clothes they will look old and lose their charm(魅力). So who doesn’t want to dress up to be beautiful and young?
But I don’t agree with the opinion that women have to show their beauty through their looks.  Their mind can be more beautiful and attractive than their looks.  A woman has experienced many troubles and may be called “aunt”, but she can still be beautiful if she has excellent qualities like knowledge, a kind heart and great courage(勇气).
What’s more, old and young,  beautiful and ugly are relative.  People who keep a young mind will never feel old.  Knowing about new things and wanting to learn more, they can keep up with fashion.  Simply dressed women are also beautiful in their own way.
Reading and learning is the best way to keep one young.  Good books can feed the flower of one’s heart and looks.

At this rate he would never graduate(毕业), I sent him to the school adviser, and I even begged(乞求) him. Nothing worked.

I’ve tried everything to get Karl to go back to school and nothing has worked. It’s out of my hands. “For a moment there was silence on the other end of the line. Karl’s next report card showed a marked improvement in his grades. Finally, he even made the honor roll .In his fourth year, I attended a parent-teacher meeting with Karl. I noticed that his teachers were astonished at the way he had turned himself around. On our way home, he said, “Mum, remember that call from the headmaster last year?” I nodded. “That was me. Do you think there is too much noise in our city? If you live near an airport, you will be unhappy because of a plane often make a loud noise. The sound of planes or heavy vehicles is likely to cause deafness if heard continuously(不断地).
However, most people in our city do not seem to mind noise. They like to enjoy music when they are doing uninteresting jobs.It is a new danger because pop music, when played through powerful amplifiers(放大器),can reach 120 decibels(120分贝的)at a distance of five feet.A continuous noise of over 85 decibels can cause deafness. It was discovered that many young people in America could hear no better than 65-year-old people.
In the past we used to think that only workers in very noisy places would become deaf. For example, when newspapers and books are being printed, the noise level is over 85 decibels, and some of the workers become deaf.Today, however, scientists believe that 10 percent of the workers in Britain are being deafened by the noise.
Sometimes noise of less than 85 decibels can make some people tired and stressed. We all know that too much noise makes life difficult and unpleasant. It can do great harm to people's health and prevent people from working well.Workers in noisy offices are not as efficient(效率高的)as those in quiet offices.Noise makes people less efficient. Can anything be done to reduce or control noise?
In Britain the government has made several laws to reduce noise.Though the government has spent a lot of money in making airports and main roads quieter, many people think that there are still not enough laws. For example, there are no laws to control the noise of machines. In Japan,America and Norway there are such laws.As a result, workers can be given compensation(赔偿)if they become deaf.

There is no way that you cannot have any embarrassing (令人尴尬的) moments. You can’t control everything that happens, so you’re going to be in an embarrassing situation one day. So how can you solve this problem? The answer is to control your actions and try not to get upset.
◆Remember that you'll probably laugh about it in a few days, so try to see the funny side of it right away.
◆If it is something so embarrassing that you feel you will never laugh about it, please remember that the (1) ______ will be over after some time.
◆Ask your friends to give you a break and not to make fun of you. If you’ve done the same for them, they’re more likely to agree to give you a break.
Always remember that you are not alone. Everyone has embarrassing moments. While you are sure that everyone is going to remember this moment forever, that fact is that they’ll probably forget it very soon. Most of us remember the moments in which we feel embarrassed, but very few of us remember other people’s embarrassing moments.
Most people have short memories. So while you may never forget the moment when your skirt was torn (撕裂) in gym class, most of the other people probably forget it at once. Although a short memory may not be a(n) (2) ______ thing when you are trying to remember facts in a history test, it is useful when you are trying to forget life’s most embarrassing moments.
