题目内容

When friends come to visit us in the evening, they spend their time telling us they are in a hurry and looking at their watches. It isn’t that our friends are all very busy, it is just that we don’t have a television. People think that we are strange. “But what do you do in the evening?” they are always asking. The answer is very simple. My wife and I have something that we’re interested in. We certainly don’t spend our evenings looking at the walls. My wife enjoys cooking and painting and often goes to evening classes in foreign languages. This is very useful because we often go to other countries for our holidays. I collect stamps and I am always busy with my collection. Both of us enjoy listening to the music and playing cards together.
Sometimes there’s no electricity in the house. This does not worry us as we just light candles and go on with what we were doing before. Our friends are lost --- no television! So they don’t know what to do. On such evenings our house is very full because they all come to us. They all have a good time, Instead of sitting quietly in front of the television, everybody talks and plays games.

In real life, robots are mainly used in factories. They do many different jobs. Usually these jobs are too       , difficult or boring for humans.
Robots also help disabled people and people who cannot look after       . For example, scientists are making a robot to help        people. Now many of them have a dog to help them. The dog is called a guide dog. In the future, guide dogs might be robot dogs.
One robot dog is called Meldog. It has wheels. It usually “walks”        its owner. It is very clever. It knows the speed of its owner’s walk. Meldog talks to its owner by       . The owner wears a special belt. This belt        instructions to the owner from Meldog such as “Stop here”, “Turn left” and “Turn right”.
In the United States, another        of robot helps disabled workers. This robot, called Kilroy, helps disabled computer operators. The robot        the sound of its owner’s voice. It follows instructions such as “Turn the page” and “Make a cup of coffee”.
Robots are also used in American       . They can do simple jobs. For example, they shave (刮脸) patients and brush their teeth and take meals from the kitchen to patients’ rooms. It never gets lost        this robot has a map of the hospital in its computer memory.

There are many colors in nature. But do you know if a color has weight? I think you’ll say “no”. But I am afraid you are wrong. If you don’t believe, you may do a small experiment.
First, put two objects with the same weight into two boxes. Then cover the box. Third, wrap one box with a red piece of paper, the other with a white piece of paper. OK. Now hold the boxes with your hand one by one. It is certain that you will think the red one is a little heavier.
Why do you think so? A scientist found that different colors have different weight in a man’s mind. So he did many tests and at last he got the result. That is to say, every color has its own weight in our mind and their order is the same. The heaviest color is red, then blue, green, orange, yellow and white.
The scientist told us that colors also have smell. Can you smell the color? Of course not. Then why did the scientist say so? That is because every color stands for a kind of light with a certain wavelength. It reaches our brain through sense organs.
According to this discovery, scientists say that people accept the colors they like, and refuse the colors they hate. So your body and mind will be healthy by using the colors you like. Or you’ll be nervous or even get ill. For example, if you stay in a room with red windows, wallpapers and furniture for two hours, you’ll feel you have been there for four hours. But if the room is blue,  you’ll feel you have been there for only an hour. Another example, if a person walks out of a red room and into a blue room, his temperature will fall. That means our body temperature will change with different colors.

When people are in a place with cool colors, they are usually quiet. People who like to spend time       often prefer blue.
Scientists say that time seems to pass more slowly in a room with warm colors      in a room with cool colors. They        that a warm color such as red and orange, is a good color for a restaurant. People who are        don’t want time to pass quickly. Cool colors are better for offices or factories,        people who work there want time to pass quickly.
Scientists don’t know why people think some colors are warm and others are cool. However, almost     agrees that warm colors remind people of warm days and cool colors remind them of cool days. Why? "The word "sport" first meant something that people did in their free time. Later it often meant hunting wild animals and birds. About a hundred years ago the word was first used for organized games. This is the usual meaning of the word today. People spend a lot of time playing football, basketball, tennis and many other sports. Such people play because they leant to. A few people are paid for sport they play. These people are called professional sportsmen. They may be sportsmen for only a few years, but during that time the best ones can earn a lot of money. For example, a professional football player in England earns more than 300,000 dollars a year. The stars earn a lot more. International golf and tennis champions can make more than 500,000 dollars a year. Of course, only a few sportsmen can earn as much as that.
Perhaps the most surprising thing about sportsmen and money is that the stars can earn more money from advertising than from sports. An advertisement for sports equipment does not simply mean, "Buy our things". It says, "Buy the same shirt and shoes as…". Famous sportsmen can even advertise things like watches and food. They allow the companies to use their names or a photo of them and they are paid for this. Sport is no longer just something for people's spare time.
