【题目】任务型阅读(每空一词)

What do we really mean by being open? Being open is a kind of invitation to others to come into speak and to share. It is important for others to get to know how we think and feel. In this waywe will be understood and accepted by others. If we aren’t open with otherswe won’t fully believe in ourselves or others.

Here are a few ways for you to be more open. Firstmake your outside behavior the same as your inside feelings and thoughts. Secondshare how you really feel about something instead of just opinions. Thirdtry to change your questions into statements(陈述句) and talk in the first person so that people will understand you more easily. For exampleyou might say“I feel happy that you’re here.” instead of“Are you glad that you’re here?” Finallytry not to say“I don’t know.” This usually means I don’t want to think about it any more.

Remember also that it is not suitable to be open with everyone in every situation. You may want to be more open with close friendsbut not with people you don’t know wellbecause you are not sure how someone else will use what they know about you. Besidessome people may not be used to too much openness. If we say everything we feel or think to themthey will feel very uncomfortable at times.

In allbeing open is a good way for us to get on well with other peoplebut we’d better keep the balance(平衡) between being open and not being too open.

【题目】It was the Greek shopkeeper who taught me about the power of being kind.

In 2008 I left Spain to study alone in London. My parents had to bring up my three younger sisters and two younger brothers, so I found three part-time jobs to pay for my studies. I worked early mornings and late nights, so I was tired, really tired, all the time.

Unfortunately, I got a cold and had a very high fever. Because I had spent all my free time working since I came to London. I hardly took part in any activities and I had no friends. Besides, I was too shy to communicate with others and ask others for help. After sleeping on the sickbed for two days, I went out to get some food. Normally, I went to the supermarket, but this time I went into the Greek shop, a small corner shop, because it was closer.

I picked up some food and gave it to the shopkeeper, who asked me, "You look terrible, my boy! You are not feeling well, right?"

I said "Yes" in a low voice.

She pointed at the salami(腊肠) and bread I was buying and offered, "I can make you a sandwich, so you don't have to do it yourself. "

I nodded without saying a word.

So, she made the sandwich and asked me to wait a moment. She went into the back room and came again with a bowl of hot soup.

"It will warm you up, " she said with a friendly smile.

What really warmed me up was not the soup. It was her smile that told me she cared me. Her kindness reminded me of my mother.

I had been quite shy, but from that day on, I did not let shyness prevent me from communicating with and being kind to others. Now I work in a children's hospital in Africa. I love my work and people around me. I always bring my smile and kindness to them.

阅读下面短文并回答问题(请注意词数要求)。

“Who did this asked Miss Green.

There were 30 children in the classroom and all were trying to think about not only what they did, but also what our teacher already knew.

Who broke this window?

Uh, Oh. I thought. I was the one who broke the window with a football. I did not mean to do it. I would be in a lot of trouble. How could I pay for a big window like that? I didn't want to put up my hand. But I had to tell the truth. So, I put up my hand and told the teacher I broke the window.

Miss Green went to the bookshelf and took down a book.

“I know how you like birds, Peter. She said. Here is a book about birds and the book is yours now. I will not punish you this time. But Peter, you should remember that I am rewarding (奖赏)you for your honesty(诚实), not for breaking the window.

I couldn't believe it! The teacher didn't punish me and I was getting my very favorite book. Now, I still use that book, and it always reminds me of (使我想起)the lesson my teacher taught me.

Honesty is always best.
