    Jack started his first job at a primary school (小学) and wanted very much to make a good impression on
the kids. So, when he saw a boy standing alone, while the other kids were playing soccer, he ealked up to him
and asked, "Are you all right?"
    The boy told himthat everything was fine and the teacher left. A few minutes later, however, he found that
the boy was still standing alone.
    Deciding to find out what was wrong this time, Jack went up to him again and said, "Hi, are you sure you're
not feeling left out? Would you like me to be your friend?"
    The boy clearly felt a little nervous, but after a little hesitation (犹豫) he said, "Maybe." Encouraged by his
progress, Jack asked, "Tell me, why are you standing here alone?"

     Jack is an able (能干的) worker. He can do all the work in the factory and often helps his boss (老板),
Mr King. So his boss likes him and he gets much money. But he likes drinking and spends most money on
the drinks. When he drinks much, he can't control (控制) himself. His wife tells him to stop drinking, but
he doesn't listen to her. She has to leave him. Now he lives in a poor and old house alone.
     One Saturday evening, Jack feels very cold in his house. He can't stay there and goes into a bar. He drinks
