Mr. Reynolds, my teacher, handed us a list of thoughts, and asked us to write a paper on one of those thoughts. I chose the topic I wonder why things are the way they are.

I wrote down all the questions that puzzled (À§ÈÅ) me about life. I realized that many of them were hard to answer, and perhaps others could not be answered at all. When I handed in my paper, I was afraid that I might fail because I did not answer the questions.

The next day, Mr. Reynolds handed me the paper and asked me to read it for the class. The other students became quiet as I began to read my story:

Mum, why are the roses red? Why is the grass green and the sky blue? Why do I have to graduate(±ÏÒµ) ? Why do I have to grow up? Why do I have to be called Grandma" one day?.. Dad, why can't I stay out until 12: OO? Why do I miss my old friends? Why do 1 miss being at home? Why do you love me so much?

Mum, Dad, why did you have to leave me? I need you. OGANU

At the end of my story. I looked at Mr. Reynolds, and I saw a tear slowly coming down his face. Then I realized that life is not built on the answers we receive but on the questions we ask.

1.Why was the writer afraid that she might fail? (²»³¬¹ý10¸ö´Ê)

2.What did the teacher ask the writer to do for the class? (²»³¬¹ý15¸ö´Ê)

3.What did the writer realize at the end of the story? (²»³¬¹ý15¸ö´Ê)

Do you want to have your own company? Do you know how to set up a company? Here¡¯re the three steps before you set up a company. Now read and follow it and maybe you can realize your dream!

Doing Research

Think about a product that you can make and sell. Your first job is to choose something that people might want. Choose something that is easy to make. Look at the products for sale in stores. Look at magazine ads. Think about the things that you buy. Brainstorm ideas with your classmates.

Your second job is to price your product. You want your product to be in high demand (ÐèÇó). People should want your product. But they should also be able to buy it. Check store prices on products that are like yours.

Collecting Information

List three products that you could make. People must want the product. Each product must also be simple enough to make easily.

Ask your friends if they would buy any of these products. Ask how much they might pay for them. Take notes on another piece of paper.

Use what you found out to decide which product to make.

Analyzing (·ÖÎö) Information

How much should you charge for your product? Remember, people should be able to buy your product. Also, you must be able to make a profit (ÀûÈó). How much does it cost to make your product?

List the materials that you will need to make a sample of your product. Also list the cost of those materials.

Figure (¼ÆËã) labor costs.Example: It takes Marco 1.5 hours to make one bag. He thinks his time is worth $ 5.00 per hour.(hours) 1.5 hrs. ¡Á (labor cost per hour) $ 5.00= (cost of labor) $ 7.50

Work out the production costs by adding the material costs and the labor costs. (material)_______+ (labor)_______ = (production costs)_______

.Now you know what it will cost to make this item. How much do you want to charge for the item? Think about how much profit you want to make. Look back at the notes of your survey. How much will students spend for your product? Put together what you find out. What will you charge? (production costs) _______+ (profit) _______= (product price) _______

Now it¡¯s time to show what you know. Good luck!

1.How many steps are there before you set up a company?

2.What is your second job in the step of doing research?

3.Must each product be simple enough to make easily?

4.How do we work out the production costs?

5.What is the passage mainly about?

1.Three 2.To price the product. 3.Yes. 4.By adding the material costs and the labor costs. 5.The steps before setting up a company./ How to set up a company. ¡¾½âÎö¡¿±¾ÎĽéÉÜÁ˽¨Á¢¹«Ë¾Ö®Ç°ÐèÒªµÄÈý¸ö²½Ö裺1.×öµ÷...

One day Peng Xianzhe learned he would go to the Mashan School in Guizhou. The 16-year-old boy tried to imagine how serious the drought was for the students at that school. However, he realized it was more serious than he had imagined when he saw the sign £¢DON¡¯T wash clothes with water, or you will be punished£¨³Í·££©. £¢

Because of drought, the school has been short of water for a long time. Each student has only one bottle of water every day for washing and drinking. The drought has made the poor students much poorer.

Peng is a student from Beijing Chaoyang Foreign Language School. He took part in the school¡¯s Rain & Bow Project from April 2 to 10.

The project idea came from Peng¡¯s principal£¨¸ºÔðÈË£©. One day, she heard a sad story about Li Guoxian, a poor girl in the Mashan School, who stopped going to school because of drought. The principal started this project to help the school. In one day, 3, 000 students made over 10, 000 donations of water, books and clothes.

Peng and other four students went to the Mashan School and gave the donations with five teachers. They visited poor families, made surveys and had classes at the school.

Ding Zhentao, 16, was worried about the school¡¯s poor learning environment. £¢The blackboards and playground are too shabby to use,£¢Ding said. £¢Besides, there really aren¡¯t enough teachers. A teacher has to teach both history and English, and even the cook is a class teacher. £¢

Although life isn¡¯t easy, students at the school have a positive attitude(»ý¼«µÄ̬¶È£©towards life and they are quite willing to learn. That¡¯s what moved 16-year-old Chen Shi most.

£¢They sang their songs together as usual before class every afternoon. After class, the students asked us to tell them things about Beijing and our studies,£¢ Chen said. £¢You can see the passion£¨ÈÈÇ飩in them. I believe it will make a difference. Their futures will be bright. £¢
