题目内容

In the past, when people had problems, they went to their families or friends to get advice. Today it is possible to get advice from radio shows, TV programmes and telephone hot lines, too. The relationship between student and teacher is less formal in the USA than in many other countries, especially at the college level. When teachers come into the classroom , the students don’t need to stand up. Students are generally encouraged to ask questions during class, to go to the teacher’s office for help after class, and to phone if they can’t go to school and need help with their lessons. (2)Most teachers allow students to enter class late or leave early, if necessary.
However, students are still asked to be    (1)   to their teacher and classmates and to be (1)   during a test. When students want to ask questions, they usually put up a hand and wait. When the teacher or a student is speaking to the class ,it’s rude to talk to another classmate, even in a low voice. When a test is being given, talking to a classmate is not only rude but also wrong. In the eyes of most American teachers, students who are talking to each other during a test are cheating(作弊).

Will it matter if you don’t take your breakfast? A short time ago, a test was given in the United States. People of different ages, from 12 to 83, were asked to have a test. During the test, these people were given all kinds of breakfasts, and sometimes they got no breakfast at all. Scientists wanted to see how well their bodies worked when they had eaten different kinds of breakfasts.
The results show that if a person eats a right breakfast, he or she will work better than if he or she has no breakfast. If a student has fruit, egg, bread and milk before going to school, he will learn more quickly and listen more carefully.
The result is opposite to what some people think. Having no breakfast will not help you lose weight. This is because people become so hungry at noon that they eat too much for lunch. They will gain weight(增加体重) instead of losing it. You will lose more weight if you reduce your other meals.

Cindy, Jerry and Mary are giving their opinions(意见) about what a good friend should be like.
Cindy:I think a good friend should be honest. That is more important than any other thing and is where a real friendship starts. If a friend isn’t honest, he may lose his friends’trust.
Jerry:I think a good friend should be generous(慷慨的). Here “generous” doesn’t mean he has to give his friends his money or his clothes. It means he should share(分享) his ideas and feelings with his friends. In fact, his friends can know him better in this way.
