A young man once went into town and bought himself a pair of trousers. When he got home, he went upstairs to his bedroom and put them on. He found that they were about two inches (英尺) longer.

Isaac Newton was a great English scientist, but when he was thinking hard about his work, he often forgot other things.

One morning Newton got up early. He began to work at once. He worked on a very difficult problem. He was still thinking it hard when it was time for breakfast .     Many years ago, in England, the rich people liked playing cards, the Earl(伯爵) of Sandwich liked playing cards, too. He liked to play for money. He was one of the greatest players at that time. He often played all day and all night.
