During my second year of nursing school, our teacher gave us an exam. I was a hardworking student and I did well in all the subjects. I finished the questions successfully until I read the last one: ¡°What is the first name of the woman who cleans the school?¡±
Of course this was a joke. I saw the cleaning woman every day. She is short and about 60 years old. She has dark hair. But how would I know her name? I had never talked with her before. In fact, I¡¯d never even thought about talking to her. I stared at my paper and started to feel rather guilty. Finally, I handed in my paper, leaving the last question blank.
Before the class ended, one student asked if the last question would count toward our grade.
¡°Certainly,¡± the teacher said. ¡°In your life, you will meet many people. All are important. They deserve(ÖµµÃ) your attention and care, even if all you do is smile and say hello.¡±
I¡¯ve never forgotten that lesson. Everyone deserves my attention and I should get to know all of the people who work and live around me. That was, perhaps, the most important lesson of my life. I also learned the cleaning woman¡¯s name was Dorothy.

Sometimes people are not clear about what kind of food is healthy, and what kind of food may do harm to our health. The USDA has prepared a food guide to help people learn about which kind of food is the healthiest to eat. The food guide describes six main food groups: meat (like fish and chicken), dairy (like milk and cheese),grains (like bread and rice), fruit and vegetables. The last group is fats and sweets. The USDA also suggests how much of each food group is healthy to eat daily. Though this guide was prepared by the US government, it is very useful for people all over the world.
As a result of years of study, we know that too much animal fat is bad for our health. For example, Americans eat a lot of meat and only a small amount of grains, fruit and vegetables. Because of the way they eat, they have a high rate of cancer and heart disease. In Japan, people eat large amounts of grains and very little meat. The Japanese also have a very low rate of cancer and heart disease. The Japanese live longer than anyone else in the world. However, when Japanese people move to the US, the rate of heart disease and cancer goes up as their eating habit changes. And as hamburgers, ice creams and other high-fat foods become popular in Japan, the rate of heart disease and cancer is going up there as well. People are also eating more meat and dairy food in other countries, in which the disease rate is going up along with the change of the way people eat. Doctors everywhere suggest people eat more grains, fruit and vegetables and less meat and dairy food.
Eating healthily is important for children as well as their parents. When parents have poor eating habits, their children usually do, too. After all, children eat in the same way as their parents. When parents eat healthy food, the children will learn to enjoy it, too. Then they will develop good eating habits. Doctors suggest parents give their children healthier food such as fruit, vegetables and juice.
Everyone wants to live a long, healthy life. We know that the food we eat affects us in different ways. For example, doctors believe that fruit and vegetables can really protect people from many different diseases. On the other hand, animal fat can cause diseases. We can change our eating habits now and enjoy many years of healthy living.

If you want to get the most out of the study of a language, you must also read for pleasure: novels, plays, travel books, and so on. And in reading books of this kind the important thing is to get on with the reading; to try to catch what the writer is going to tell you in the book as a whole. This is impossible if you stop and think over the meaning of every single word which happens to be unfamiliar. You can not enjoy a story if you stop a few times on every page in order to look up words in the dictionary. You may even prevent(·Á°) yourself from understanding the story as a whole by doing this.
When you are reading books of this kind, therefore, you will usually have to depend mainly on the context (ÉÏÏÂÎÄ) to help you. If you meet an unfamiliar word, do not let it take too much of your attention from the main idea of the story. In all probability you will meet the same word again a few pages later on in a slightly different context, and each time you see it that your understanding of it will become more exact.

The more books you read, the better your life will be. If you don¡¯t believe me, please consider the following reasons to read more books.
You will have strong brain power .Studies suggest reading makes you smart. Unlike watching television, which requires no thought process£¨¹ý³Ì£©, reading is an active learning experience that will keep your mind sharp (even in old age). ¡¡¡¡
You will travel to a new world .¡¡Sometimes our daily life can start to get boring . At times like this, I like to dive into a good fiction book, where I can forget about whatever problems are stressing me out. I¡¯ll come back refreshed after my mini-vacation to a fresh and exciting place in the world of words. ¡¡¡¡
You will improve your vocabulary .¡¡The more words you¡¯re able to use, the better you will become at expressing your thoughts and feelings. I couldn¡¯t imagine how I would write articles like this if I didn¡¯t actively aim to improve my vocabulary, because using the same few words to express myself would get awfully boring in a hurry. ¡¡
You will entertain yourself at a low price .If you¡¯re looking for entertainment without much money, reading is your best choice. Thanks to the popularity of electronic reading devices(É豸), it¡¯s never been easier to entertain yourself for hours at a time, for the low cost of a few dollars.
You will discover surprising new ideas.¡¡¡¡Reading introduced me to concepts £¨¸ÅÄlike mindful eating, relaxation exercises, and the importance of loving yourself. If I didn¡¯t read, I wouldn¡¯t realize these ideas. If you don¡¯t read, you will miss many surprising new ideas.¡¡¡¡
You will become an expert£¨×¨¼Ò£© in your field .¡¡Don¡¯t you think reading articles and books by experts in your field might make you better at what you do? If you don¡¯t learn more about your profession, then your lack of passion could be a sign that you¡¯re in the wrong field. ¡¡¡¡
I firmly believe that reading has changed my life . I hope these reasons can encourage you to read more books.

After thirty minutes, Kim couldn¡¯t stand(ÈÌÊÜ) it. He went out of the room and came back a few minutes later. He sat down in front of the man again but this time he held the man¡¯s hat in his mouth.
