There was a boy who was sent by his parents to a boarding school(寄宿学校). Before he was sent away, the boy was the         student in his class. He was at the top in every exam.
But the boy changed after          home and studying in the boarding school. His grades started to        . He hated being in a group. He was lonely all the time. And there were especially dark times when he felt like committing suicide(自杀). All of this was because he felt no one loved him.
His parents started to         the boy. But they even did not know what was wrong with him. So his father decided to go to the school and talk with him.
They sat by the lake near the school. The father started asking him some casual questions about his lessons, teachers and      . After some time his father said, "Do you know, son, why I'm here today?"
"To          my grades," the boy replied back.
"No, no," his father said. "I'm here to tell you that you're the most              person for me. I want to see you       . I don't care about grades. I care about you. I care about your happiness. You're my life."
These words caused the boy's eyes to be filled with tears. He hugged(拥抱) his father. They didn't say        to each other for a long time.

One day, a young man visited a small farm in the countryside. As he got closer to the farm, he saw many chickens and an eagle (鹰) playing together.
He then went up to the farm house and talked to the farmer, “Sir, I was just passing by and I saw that you have many chickens and an eagle.” The farmer smiled and said, “That’s not an eagle. It’s a chicken.” The young man kept saying that it was an eagle. He said to the farmer, “Sir, that is an eagle! I can proveit to you.” The farmer laughed, “Sure, go ahead.”
The young man then pulled that big bird out and climbed a high mountain. He held the bird in his hands and said, “You are an eagle, fly!” But the bird failed. The young man tried the second time. He said to the bird, “I don’t care you have been raised as a chicken for those years. But I know what you were created to be. Betty and I are best friends. Our birthdays are on the same day, so every year we have a birthday party together. But this year we had a costume party instead.
While we were writing the invitations, my mom came in and asked, “Nancy, what about inviting John?” John had been in our class for only a few months, but he was already getting better grades in math than anyone else in our class. “Mom, he wears the same pants to school every day. How could he even afford a costume?” Mom said nothing.
The next day, mom gave me an envelope(信封) with a shopping card in it. “I thought it would be nice for you to give this to John.” Mom said. But how? We didn’t want to make John embarrassed. We discussed it for a long time. Finally, Betty and I had a good idea.

Before eating the birthday cake, Betty said in a loud voice, “Now it’s time for the great prize game.” It was a math game. None of us were surprised when John gave the right answer first and walked off with the envelope.
Everything went well as we planned. John wore a new pair of pants and a new shirt the next week. He felt happy. So did we.

We have all heard the saying ,"It's better to give" than to receive. "Think about it for a moment. What does it mean to you? Of course getting a gift is nice. Giving ,though ,can be just as good. Sometimes a gift of our time is even more appreciated. There are many ways you can give the gift of time. One is to volunteer.
As a volunteer, you can learn new things, make friends, and know that you are helping someone. Here are some simple ways that you can volunteer..
Animal shelters are always looking for volunteers to walk pets, and help clean and care for them.
Organize a clean-up program in your neighborhood.
Hospitals often have programs that kids can help with to cheer up patients.
Donate used toys and books to libraries, shelters or churches.
These are just a few examples – visit one of the many volunteer sites online for many more ideas. Why not ask your morn or dad to volunteer too, and make it a family activity?
Once you volunteer, you will quickly learn that giving has its own rewards(回报). You won't get paid, but the feeling you get from helping others is much more special than getting money. Give it a try. You won't be disappointed(失望的)!
