Dear Kitty,
I am sorry that I did not write to you earlier because I have been very busy. I was helping    with a charity show to raise money    31   Project Green Hope. A lot of work needed to be finished, so I did not have much free time.
I felt very happy when I    32   to be the host. It was exciting,    33  I was also very nervous. I know that lots of people would come    34   the show and many pop stars would come, too. My job was to    35   each star and I also had many other duties.
We practiced a lot before the show. I had to remember to look at the right camera at the right time. At first, I thought I would never be    36   to remember all the words.
The big day came very quickly, and I was so excited. Twenty minutes before the big event, we    37   the doors and many people came into the theatre to watch the show. The fans of the pop stars were making a lot of noise, so I had to speak    38  .
A lot of    39   has been given to Project Green Hope. I hope more events like this will be organized to raise money for charity and I think more people should be    40   to take part in them.
See you soon .
Best wishes!
Ricky

Imagine one day the water taps (水龙头) in your house stop running. You have to pay a lot of money to buy water from shops. And still there isn’t enough water for everyone. Your mother has to save the family’s shower water to use for washing clothes. Would you be able to stand that kind of life?
Probably not. But that is what kids in Yemen (也门) are experiencing (经历). According to a report, the capital, Sana, will run out of drinking water as early as 2025.
Because of the water shortage (短缺), the Yemen government often cuts the water supply (供应). Hannan, an 18-year-girl, tells the Teens, “In a good week we’ll have a water supply all week. But then the next week there will be water only for a day or two.”
Hannan says only rich people have enough water to use. They can buy water from the shops or from the water trucks. Private (私人的) companies own the trucks, They travel around the city every day to sell water--- at very high prices.
“ A lot of people can’t pay for it,” she says.
The government is thinking of making use of seawater. But it will cost a lot and it may not happen soon enough to help the people of Yemen.

After a quick breakfast, I went into the lecture(讲座) hall in a hurry. A famous teacher was speaking to the students. He was holding up a $100 bill. Then he said to over 300 students, “ Who would like this $100 bill?” The students put up their hands at once. Then he said, “I am going to give this $100 bill to one of you, but first, let me do this.” He made the bill into a ball. Then he said, “Who wants it now?” The hands went back into the air. “Well,” he said, “What if I do this?” and he dropped it on the floor and stepped on it. He picked up the dirty bill and said, “Who still wants it?” Hands went back again into the air.
“My friends,” he said, “you have learned a valuable lesson today. No matter what I did to the $100 bill, you still want this bill. Many times in our life, we are dropped and stepped on. We feel as if we are worth nothing. But remember, no matter what has happened to you, you will never lose your value. You are always valuable to those people who love you. Your value doesn’t come form what you do or whom you know, but who you are.”

The marathon(马拉松) in my town usually takes place in hot weather. My job was to follow the runners to help those who needed medical help. “We should stay behind the last runner, so take it slowly,” I said to the driver, Doug.
As it began, the front runners started to disappear(消失). Then I noticed a woman in blue running shorts and a white T-shirt. “ Doug, look!” We knew we were watching our “last runner”. Her feet turned in , yet her left knee turned out. Her legs were so crippled(畸形的) that it seemed impossible for her to be able to walk. How could she run a marathon?
We watched in silence as she slowly moved forward. We would move forward a little bit, then stop and wait for her. Then we would slowly move forward a little bit more. As I watched her try to put one foot in front of the other, I found myself breathing for her. I wanted her to stop, and at the same time, I hoped that she wouldn’t. Finally, she was the only runner left in sight. When the finishing line came into sight, we found the cheering people had all gone home. She slowly crossed through the line and lifted her hands, full of happiness.
I do not know the woman’s name, but since that day she has become a part of my life. For her, it was about finishing what she had set out to do, no matter what. When I think things are too difficult and want to say “I just can’t do it”, I think of the last runner. Then I realize how easy the task before me really is.
