You could take the subway or get on the plane with just your face alone. This is how facial recognition (人脸识别) works. It has also been used to catch criminals. The American pop singer Taylor Swift even used the technology to find out the person who did something bad to her at her concerts.
In China, facial recognition systems(系统) have been used in many areas. In Zhengzhou, people can now get on the subway by using facial recognition technology. They just need to connect their online payment systems to the subway’s smartphone app. Students at certain schools can pass through the school’s gates by scanning (扫描) their face.
However, there are no laws to control the use and collection of facial information now, according to Zhao Zhanling, a researcher at the China University of Political Science and Law. Many people are worried about the collection and use of the information by governments and companies. Why is it necessary to collect data about your face and what will the data (数据) be used for? During my travels through the mountains of Greece I was only ever scared once, it was dusk and as I walked. I came across six large wolves that were feeding on the body of a dead animal. They cried out loud again. But when they saw that their cry did not cause me to change my direction or make me run they feared to come after me, so they let me pass and returned to the dead animal.
If I had turned back or tried to run away when they marched out to meet me, I am certain the whole pack would have attacked me in a moment. But my show of false courage intimidated them and kept them back.
