Australia has a lot of lovely animals. The most famous one is the kangaroo(袋鼠).
The kangaroo is the symbol of Australia. They have large eyes and ears. They don’t walk. They jump. They use their strong back legs. They can jump up to 74 kilometers per hour. They can go over nine meters in one jump.
Kangaroo mothers have pouches(育儿袋)to carry their babies. The babies stay inside to get milk and keep warm. Kangaroos are everywhere in Australia. They are on TV, in books and in the shops. The government even wants to put them on passports.
There are about 20 to 25 million kangaroos in Australia. That’s more than the number of people in the country! Some kangaroos go hungry because there is not enough to eat .They break into farms for food. Farmers are very angry with them. To help the farmers, the Australian Government kills some kangaroos each year.

Jim is a little boy who stays with his grandma.

Chinese New Year
Chinese New Year has been celebrated in China for thousands of years. It celebrated the first day of the first month on the Chinese calendar. It is also called the Spring Festival and is the most important of the traditional Chinese holidays. This day is celebrated by all of Chinese people in China as well as throughout the world.科
There are a number of traditions celebrated during Chinese New Year:
Dragon Dance or lion Dance-In a dragon dance a large team of people(up to 50) carry portions(一部分) of the dragon on poles and move the poles in a manner that depicts(描述) the movement of the dragon. In a lion dance two people dress in an elaborate(复杂) lion costume and move and dance to mimic a lion.
Red Envelops-Red envelops filled with money are often handed out as presents to young children or newly married couples. An even amount of money is given for good luck.
Cleaning the house-Chinese families generally clean their house thoroughly before many celebrations in order to get rid of any of last year’s bad luck.
Firecrackers(爆竹)-A traditional part of the celebration is to light a lot of fire crackers. The Ancient Chinese believed that the loud noise would scare off evil(邪恶的) spirits. In some places, like Hong Kong, lighting real firecrackers has been banned. As a result, many people decorate their homes with colorful plastic firecrackers.
The color red-The color red is the main color for clothes and decorations. It symbolizes joy and happiness.
