I was at work when I got a phone call. I’ve tried everything to get Karl to go back to school and nothing has worked. It’s out of my hands. “For a moment there was silence on the other end of the line. Karl’s next report card showed a marked improvement in his grades. Finally, he even made the honor roll .In his fourth year, I attended a parent-teacher meeting with Karl. Modern life is impossible without traveling. The fastest way of traveling is by plane. With a modern plane you can travel to lots of places in one day.

Some people like to travel by sea. There are large liners and river boats. You can visit many other countries and different parts of your country on them. Ships are not so fast as trains or planes, but traveling by sea is a very nice way to spend a holiday.

Dear Mrs. Smith,
I was a student of yours in Grade Six, and I hope you still remember me. I’m writing this letter because I want to let you know that the school year with you was important and special to me. It made a great contribution(贡献) to my life.
I know I was very quiet in your class, and you never said much to me. But you did something that made a big difference in my life. You see, all through my first years in schools. I hated to read. Books were just words that had very little to do with me, and I was bored by them. I’ll never forget the first day of Grade Six when you took out a thick book and began to read the story to our class. Your voice seemed to change with the people in the story, and you drew pictures in my mind as you read aloud. Since that day, I couldn’t wait until after lunch when you would read to the class. You read us all kinds of wonderful books.
During the summer after my year in your class, I missed hearing the stories you would read. So one day I picked up a book and read it all on my own. I found out that I could make the words interesting, too. Now, I love to read! Thank you for opening the world of books for me.
Yours,
Linda

There is no way that you cannot have any embarrassing (令人尴尬的) moments. You can’t control everything that happens, so you’re going to be in an embarrassing situation one day. So how can you solve this problem? The answer is to control your actions and try not to get upset.
◆Remember that you'll probably laugh about it in a few days, so try to see the funny side of it right away.
◆If it is something so embarrassing that you feel you will never laugh about it, please remember that the (1) ______ will be over after some time.
◆Ask your friends to give you a break and not to make fun of you. If you’ve done the same for them, they’re more likely to agree to give you a break.
Always remember that you are not alone. Everyone has embarrassing moments. While you are sure that everyone is going to remember this moment forever, that fact is that they’ll probably forget it very soon. Most of us remember the moments in which we feel embarrassed, but very few of us remember other people’s embarrassing moments.
Most people have short memories. So while you may never forget the moment when your skirt was torn (撕裂) in gym class, most of the other people probably forget it at once.
