A group will have around ten birds, but some groups even have 100 birds. This way the whole group can help to protect the eggs. Ostrich eggs are the biggest eggs of any animal at an average of 3 pounds.

Ostriches don’t actually put their head in the ground as many cartoons like to show. What they really do is to lie down and put their head and neck flat on the ground to hide. From a distance all you can see is their body, so it appears as if they have put their head in a hole in the ground. There have been many great inventions, things that changed the way we live. The first great invention was one that is still very important today -the wheel. This made it easier to carry heavy things and to travel a long distance.

For hundreds of years after that there were few inventions that had as much effect(作用) as the wheel. Then in the early 1800’s the word started to change. There was little unknown land left in the world. People didn’t have to explore（探索） much anymore. They began to work hard to make life better.
