On Keeping a Diary in English
Keeping a diary in English is one of the effective ways to improve our English writing ability. Compared with other forms of writing, it is shorter and takes less time. It can help us to develop the habit of thinking in English. If we stick to this practice, gradually we’ll learn how to express ourselves in English. In keeping a diary in English, we certainly run up against a lot of difficulties. In the first place, it often happens that we have trouble finding appropriate words and phases to give expression to our mind. Secondly, there are many idiomatic（习语的；惯用的）ways of saying things in Chinese. And it is extremely hard for us to put them into English properly. Surely, there are some other roadblocks we may come across in keeping a diary in English.
As far as I’m concerned, my suggestion is that we should always have a notebook and a Chinese-English dictionary within easy reach. Whenever something beats us, we can first put it down in our notebook and then consult our dictionary. We can also turn to our English teacher for help, if necessary. In short, I believe that it is of great use to keep a diary in English for the development of our writing skills.

Keeping a diary can improve our English. It helps us form the habit of English thinking and express ourselves. When we come across difficulties like choosing proper words, and changing Chinese idioms into English, we can turn to references.
To master the English language, we’ll try our best to think in English when listening, speaking, reading and writing; to reach the goal, I believe it is better to keep diaries in English regularly and practice the language. Keeping the English diary means practicing English every day.
In my opinion, keeping a diary in English is one of the effective methods to improve English writing skills. The diary is short and small, time saving; we are free to set down what’s on inside and outside ourselves. Unconsciously we can use English freely and effectively.

A father had three sons, but the brothers were always quarreling. Their father tried to make them good fiends, and called all his sons to him. He showed them three sticks and said, “I want to talk to you. Take these sticks and tie them together. Then try to break the bundle of sticks.” The oldest son tried with all his strength but he could not break it. Then the other two did the same, but neither of them could break it. “Now,” said the father, “untie the bundle and each of you take one stick and try to break it.” Either of them could break the stick easily. Then the father said, “My sons, when the sticks are bound together, it is very strong, and you cannot break it. But when they are united, you can break each stick easily.
