THE LION AND THE MOUSE
When a lion was asleep, a little mouse began running up and down beside him, which made some noise. This soon wakened the lion. Losing his temper, he caught the mouse in his paws and was about to kill it. The mouse, terrified, pleaded to the lion to spare its life.
"Please let me go," it cried, "and one day I will repay you for your kindness." The idea of so small a creature ever being able to do anything for him amused the lion so much that he laughed aloud. He thought, “How could this little mouse help me?” However, he lifted his paws and let it go.
But the mouse's chance came after all. A few days later, when the lion was wandering in the forest, he was caught in a trap.
The hunters wanted to take him alive to the king, so he tied him to a tree, and went away to look for a wagon.
Just then the little mouse passed by, and saw the sad lion. It went up to him and soon gnawed away(啃断) the ropes. “Was I right?” asked the little mouse. This lion nodded his head and thanked the little mouse.

A mouse made a lion angry because of waking him up. The mouse begged him for its life, promising to help him in return. Finally, the mouse did help the lion out of trouble.
After reading this story, I was lost in thought. I came to realize that people should never ignore the deed with small kindness. Your practicing of small good deeds sometimes will get big returns or make a great difference!
I fully agree that trivial things play an important part in our life. Such examples can be seen easily in our daily life. A good case in point is, as we can see, a word of encouragement from a sincere teacher often change a downhearted student’s idea and behavior. Another example is that a warm smile to someone who loses courage and wants to commit suicide may comfort him, life him up and help him make it through the darkest night in his life. Furthermore, if you are traveling abroad, your picking up of a small piece of litter on a road can show the good habits and virtue of Chinese to the world!
In a word, it is the trivial things in daily life that count. Just as the famous saying goes, do not think any virtue trivial, and so neglect it; do not think any vice trivial, and so practice it.
