A. Be a role model for learning.

B. Learn something new yourself.

C. Set aside lots of time to read together.

D. Pay attention to what your child loves.

E. Practice what your child learns at school.

F. Connect what your child learns to everyday life.

The parents’ role

1.

In the early years, parents are their children’s first teachers — exploring nature, reading together, cooking together, and counting together. When a young child begins formal school, the parents’ job is to show him how school can extend the learning they began together at home, and how exciting and meaningful this learning can be. As preschoolers grow into school-age kids, parents become their children’s learning coaches.

2.

“One of the most important things a parent can do is noticing her child. Is he a talker or is he shy? Find out what interests him and help him explore it. Let your child show you the way he likes to learn,” recommends Dalton Miller-Jones, Ph.D.

3.

Many teachers encourage parents to go over what their children are learning in a non-pressured way and to practice what they have learnt. This doesn’t mean training them for success, but it may mean going over basic counting skills, multiplication tables or letter recognition, depending on the needs and learning level of their child.

4.

Make learning part of your child’s everyday experience, especially when it comes out of your child’s natural questions. When you cook together, do measuring math. When you drive in the car, count license plates and talk about the states. When you turn on the blender, explore how it works together.

5.

Take up a new language or craft, or read about an unfamiliar topic. Show your child what you are learning and how you may be struggling. You’ll gain a better understanding of what your child is going through and your child may develop learning skills by watching.

Why Exercise Is Cool?

1. Exercise Strengthens Muscles

Did you ever do a push-up or swing across the monkey bars at the playground? 1. By using your muscles to do powerful things, you can make them stronger. For older teens and adults, this kind of workout can make muscles bigger, too.

2. 2.

Can you touch your toes easily without yelling ouch? Most kids are pretty flexible, which means that they can bend and stretch their bodies without much trouble. Being flexible is having “full range of motion,” which means you can move your arms and legs freely without feeling tightness or pain.

3. Exercise Keeps the Balance

3. Your body needs a certain amount of calories every day just to function, breathe, walk around, and do all the basic stuff. 4. If you’re not very active, your body won’t need as many calories.

Whatever your calorie need is, if you eat enough to meet that need, your body weight will stay about the same. If you eat more calories than your body needs, it may be stored as extra fat.

4. Exercise Makes You Feel Good

It feels good to have a strong, flexible body that can do all the activities you enjoy—like running, jumping, and playing with your friends. It’s also fun to be good at something, like scoring a basket, hitting a home run, or perfecting a dive.

But you may not know that exercising can actually put you in a better mood.5. It’s just another reason why exercise is cool!

A. So you want to do some aerobic (有氧的) exercise right now?

B. Food gives your body fuel in the form of calories, which are a kind of energy.

C. When you exercise, your brain releases a chemical, which may make you feel happier.

D. Those are exercises that can build strength.

E. Exercise Makes You Flexible

F. Exercise Makes Your Heart Happy

G. But if you’re active, your body needs an extra measure of calories or energy.

For years scientists have been worrying about the effects of air pollution on the earth’s natural conditions. Some believe the air inside many houses may be more dangerous than the air outside. It may be one hundred times worse.

Indoor air pollution can cause a person to feel tired, to suffer eye pain, headache and other problems. Some pollutants can cause breathing disorders, diseases of blood and even cancer, Most scientists agree that every modern house has some kind of indoor pollution.

People have paid more attention to the problem now. It is true that when builders began making houses and offices they did not waste energy. To do this they built buildings that limited the flow of air between inside and outside. They also began using man-made building materials. These materials are now known to let out harmful gases.

As the problem became more serious, scientists began searching for a way to deal with it. They discovered a natural pollution control system for building—green plants. Scientists do not really know how plants control air pollution. They believe that a plant’s leaves absorb or take in the pollutants. In exchange the plant lets out oxygen through its leaves and through its tiny organizations on its roots. Scientists suggest that all buildings should have one large plant or several small plants inside for every nine square metres of space. Studies of different plants show that each absorbs different chemicals.

So the most effective way to clean the air is to use different kinds of plants. Having green plants inside your house can make it a prettier and more healthy place.
