One afternoon I toured an art museum while waiting for my husband to finish a business meeting. I was looking forward to a quiet 1 of the splendid artwork.
A young 2 viewing the paintings ahead of me 3 nonstop between themselves. I watched them a moment and decided the lady was doing all the talking. I admired the man’s 4 for putting up with her 5 stream of words. 6 by their noise, I moved on.
I met them several times as I moved 7 the various rooms of art. Each time I heard her continuous flow of words, I moved away 8.
I was standing at the counter of the museum gift shop making a 9 when the couple approached the 10. Before they left, the man 11 into his pocket and pulled out a white object. He 12 it into a long stick and then 13 his way into the coatroom to get his wife’s jacket.
“He’s a 14 man,” the clerk at the counter said. “Most of us would give up if we were blinded at such a young age. During his recovery, he made a promise his life wouldn’t change. So, as before, he and his wife come in 15 there is a new art show.”
“But what does he get out of the art?” I asked. “He can’t see.”
“Can’t see! You’re 16. He sees a lot. More than you and I do,” the clerk said. “His wife 17 each painting so he can see it in his head.”
I learned something about patience, 18 and love that day. I saw the patience of a young wife describing paintings to a person without 19 and the courage of a husband who would not 20 blindness to change his life. And I saw the love shared by two people as I watched this couple walk away, their arms intertwined.

HOLLYWOOD(UPI)—Loni Anderson decided last year it was time to change her career around to play moms and comedy instead of pretty young girls.

So far, most people remember her as Jennifer Marlowe, the role she played in her first film in 1982.
This summer people will see Anderson in A Night as Roxbury, a film produced and directed by Amy Heckerlin.
“In the film I have two sons. One is 26, and the other is 30. Isn’t that interesting? I know I don’t look that old, but that’s what’s so fun about it.”
“My character dresses in clothes too short, too tight. Dan Hedaya plays my husband. We’re a couple with a lot of money and no taste. Our sons are complete idiots(白痴). Their purpose in life is to get into the Rich Young Man Club where everybody is proud of his wealth.”
“As you can tell, I’m doing things I’d never have done at the beginning of my career.”
“But I am who I am. I’ve worked as an actress a long time and now I can be anything I want. It’s a great time for me. I don’t have anything to prove.”
“I hadn’t done comedy in a long time. It’s what I do best and what I like best. At this point in my life I want to look a little bit foolish. I think that would be something new for me.”

One day I decided to quit.I quitted my job, my relationship, my spirituality. I wanted to quit my life.
I went to the 1  to have one last talk with God. "Can you give me one good  2  not to quit?" His answer surprised me.
"Look around. Do you see the fern(蕨类植物) and the bamboo? When I planted their seeds, I took good care of them. The fern quickly grew from the earth. 3  nothing came from the bamboo seed. During the following three years, the fern grew more plentiful. And 4 , nothing came from the bamboo seed. But I did not quit on the bamboo. Then in the fifth year a  5  sprout(新芽) emerged from the earth. Compared to the fern it was 6  small and insignificant. But just 6 months later the bamboo 7  to over 100 feet tall. It had spent the five years growing 8 . Those roots made it strong and gave it 9  it needed to survive. I wouldn’t give any of my creations a challenge it could not 10 .”
He said to me. "All this time you have been struggling, you have 11  been growing roots. I would not quit on the bamboo. 12  will I ever quit on you. Don't 13  yourself with others. The bamboo had a different 14  from the fern. Yet they both make the forest beautiful. Your time will  15 . You will rise high! "
"How high should I rise?" I asked.
"How high will the bamboo rise?" He asked  16 .
"As high as it can?" I 17 .
"Yes," He said. "Give me glory 18  rising as high as you can."
I left the forest and bring back this story. I hope it can help you see that God will never  19on you. Never regret a day in your life. Good days give you happiness. Bad days give you 20. Both are necessary to life.

The other day I was talking to a stranger on the bus; he told me that he had a good 1 in Chicago and he wondered if, by any chance, I2 to know him. For a moment, I thought he might be3, but I could tell from the expression on his face that he was not. He was 4. I felt that it was ridiculous (可笑的) to 5 that I could possibly have ever met with his friend out of millions of people in Chicago. But, 6, I just smiled and reminded(提醒) him that Chicago was a very 7 city. He nodded, and I thought he was going to be glad to drop the topic and talk about something else. But I was wrong. He was silent for a few minutes, and then he 8 to tell me all about his friend.
His friend’s main 9 in life seemed to be tennis. He was an excellent tennis player, and he 10had his own tennis court(网球场). There were a lot of people with swimming 11, yet there were only two people with private (私人的)tennis court; his friend in Chicago was one of them. I told him that I knew several12 like that, including my brother, who was doctor in California. He 13 that maybe there were more private courts in the country than he14 but he did not know of any others. Then he asked me15 my brother lived in California. When I said Sacramento, he said that was a coincidence (巧合)16 his Chicago friend also spent the summer in Sacramento last year and he lived next door to a 17who had a tennis court in his backyard. I said I felt that really was a coincidence because my next-door neighbour had gone to Sacramento last summer and had 18 the house next to my brother’s house. For a moment, we stared at each other, but we did not say anything.
“Would your friend’s name happen to be Roland Kirkwood?” I asked finally. He 19 and said, “Yes. Would your brother’s name happen to be Dr Rey Hunter?” It was my 20 to laugh. “Yes,” I replied.

The Johnson family from England believe they are lucky to be alive after surviving an incredible incident off the coast of Australia. The Johnsons had been 1 that they might see some whales when they were 2 a yacht—a large expensive boat for a 10-day sailing 3 around the Whitsunday Islands. 4, they had no clue just how 5 their viewing would be. Two hours into their journey a nine-meter-long humpback whale 6 out of the ocean and crashed into their boat before returning to the water.
Mark Johnson, the eldest son,was sailing the yacht when he heard an immense bang and a thud (重击声). He 7 thought the yacht had hit a rock. But when he looked up, he saw the whale 8 down the deck of the boat. He told the reporters, “We were staring into its right eye. It was a very 9 moment. The eye was about the 10 of a dinner plate. It was huge!”
11 for the Johnson family, no one was hurt, but the yacht suffered 12 damage. The whale had ruined the mast and rigging—the pole and ropes which hold the 13 —and so the family was left with no way at sea, 10 miles from the shore. The 14 equipment was also damaged, but fortunately they had a cell phone and were able to call for help.
Why the whale jumped onto the yacht is a 15,but the family thinks that maybe the boat had not 16 sailed between the whale and its baby calf. Perhaps the whale was trying to 17 its calf when it jumped, and hit the yacht by accident.
18 the reason, people are completely 19 that this incident happened. There is over 135 million square miles of ocean, so what are the 20 of a whale jumping onto a 30-foot-long yacht? The possibility of something like this happening is extremely small, but it just shows that life is full of surprises.

It was her giggling that drew my attention.Note taking really wasn’t all that funny.
Walking over to the offender, I asked for the 1.Frozen, she refused to give it to me.I waited, all attention in the classroom on the quiet 2 between teacher and student. When she finally 3it over she whispered, “Okay, but I didn’t draw it”.
It was a hand-drawn  4 of me, teeth blackened and the words “I’m stupid” coming out of my mouth.I managed to fold it up calmly. My mind, 5, was working angrily as I struggled not to 6.
I figured I knew the two most likely candidates for drawing the picture. It would do them some 7 to teach them a lesson, and maybe it was high time that I did it!
Thankfully, I was able to keep myself 8
When there were about six minutes remaining, I showed the class the picture. They were all silent as I told them how 9 this was for me.I told them there must be a reason 10  and now was their chance to write down anything they needed to tell me.Then I let them write silently while I sniffed in the back of the classroom.
As I 11 the notes later, many of them said something like, “I’ve got nothing against you,” or “I’m sorry you were hurt.” Some kids said, “We’re 12of you.” But two notes, from the girls who I 13were behind the picture, had a list of issues.I was too 14, too strict…
Reading those notes, I realized that over the course of this year, instead of 15 my students, I had begun commanding them to 16.Where I thought I was driving them to success I was 17 driving them away.
I had some apologizing to do.But the next day in the classroom, one boy and one girl each handed me a card. The one 18  by all the boys expressed sincere regret for the ugly joke. The one from the girls asked for 19.
This was a lesson for both the kids and me.Forgiveness does not change the past, but it does enlarge the 20.

As I held my father’s hands one night, I couldn’t help but notice their calluses(老茧)and roughness. His hands tell the story of his life as a 1, including all his struggles.
One summer, I remember, a drought (旱灾)hit Ontario, turning it into a 2desert. On one of those hot mornings I was picking sweet corn with my dad to fill the last 3 from the grocery store. Fifty dozen was all we needed, which 4 took twenty minutes. That morning, however, the process didn’t 5 quickly. After forty minutes of aimlessly walking in the field, we 6needed twenty dozen. I was completely frustrated and 7. Dropping the basket heavily, I declared, “If the store wants its last twenty dozen, they can pick it themselves.” Dad 8, “Just think, my little girl, only ten dozen left for each of us and then we’re 9.” Such is Dad—whatever problem he 10, he never gives up.
11, the disastrous(灾难性的) effects of the drought were felt all over our county. It was a challenging time for everyone, 12 Dad remained optimistic. He 13to be grateful for other things like good health and food on our plates. Only then did I truly begin to 14 Dad and his faith that guided us through the hard times.
Dad is also a living example of real 15. From dawn to dusk, he works countless hours to 16our family. He always puts our happiness 17 his own, and never fails to cheer me on at my sports games 18 his exhaustion after long days. His loving and selfless nature has inspired me to become more sympathetic (同情心的) and 19 putting others first.
Dad, the life 20 I have learned from you will stay with me forever. You are my father, teacher, friend and, most importantly, my hero.
