Last year, my school club was putting on a cosplay show on the campus, and I was given an important role. Thrilled as I was, I tried not to tell my family about what was going on, which was actually quite natural for a boy in his “rebellious period”.   After getting home from school, I went straight into my room and tried my costume on quietly. When I was making myself up, I got so concentrated that I didn’t hear my grandfather who was asking me to dinner. Much to my surprise, he suddenly opened my door and came in, and it didn’t take long for him to get totally shocked. For what seemed an eternity, the two of us stood in stunned silence, not knowing what to say. Imagine his dismay when he saw me dressed up like a madman!
We both tried to avoid each other later that day, and I could tell he was more than angry. Even my parents put some pressure on me. I didn’t know what to do at first, because I thought he was overreacting—I was just preparing for the show!
I got a little depressed for a while, but realizing it couldn’t solve the problem, I tried to help them understand what cosplay was all about. I didn’t go up close to my grandfather right away. Instead, I went to my parents first. With their support and help, my grandfather finally gave credit to what I was doing. After all, it’s communication that matters.
