M：A can of paint fell down from a ladder．It dropped on the floor in front of me．
I knocked my head against a shop window when I tried to move away．
W：You are so unlucky!
M：Yes, but I finally got to the clinic．The doctor told me to
keep my arm clean and dry．He told me to rest for a day too．I m feeling better now．

W：Well, it cools pretty well now, 
but it sure makes an awful lot of noise．It makes it hard to sleep sometimes．

W：Oh, it s working fine now, thanks．
M：Good．
And is the washing machine OK?
W：Yes, since you had it fixed last year, I haven't had any problems with the water leaking．I want to talk with you about as the sofa, though．Its really uncomfortable．Maybe its time to replace it．How old is it, anyway?
M：Well, I admit it s pretty old．About 20 years, I guess．Maybe it is time to think about a new one．Is the TV set working on all the stations?
W：Not really．The reception is bad on some of the stations．OK．I 11 have it checked out next week．

W：Honoured guests, ladies and gentlemen! Welcome to this meeting of the Business Studies Society．We are all really honoured to have with us today Professor Robert Barnes, the famous writer and lecturer from the University of Toronto．Many of you have heard of Professor Barnes, and 
almost certainly know of his book Modern Management Strategies．What is less well-known is that Professor Barnes is not just an academic, but is also a practitioner．Before obtaining his doctors degree at the University of British Columbia, he worked for several companies including IBM and ICI．The title of Professor Barness talk today is “The need for investing in human resources”．
Professor Barnes has indicated that he would be delighted to answer any questions at the end of his speech．So, please give Professor Barnes a warm welcome!
