Car Ownership in China
As can be seen from the chart, great changes in car ownership have taken place in China in the past ten years. The number of private cars has increased more than 6 times from nearly 3 million in 1996 to over 15 million in 2006. I think there are two main reasons for these changes. Firstly, the economy of China has developed so rapidly that many Chinese people want to own private cars. Secondly, in modern society, many Chinese need a car to do business so as to save time. In my view, however, as the car ownership constantly increases year by year, a large number of social problems, such as traffic jams, will turn up nearly every city in China.
