Dear Mr Brown,
“Do you like my dress?" A little girl asked a passing stranger. "My mommy made it just for me." She said with tears in her eyes. "Well, I think it's very pretty. So tell me , little one, why are you1?"  With a quiver(颤动) in her voice the little girl answered,"After Mommy made me this dress, she had to2." "Well, now," said the lady, "with a little girl like you waiting for her, I'm sure she'll be right3." "No ,Madam, you don't understand," said the child through her tears," my daddy said she's up in4now with Grandfather. "Finally the woman 5 what the child meant, and why she was crying. Kneeling down she 6cradled(抱着) the child in her arms and together they cried for the mommy that was gone. Then suddenly the little girl did something that the woman thought was a bit7.She stopped crying, stepped back from the woman and began to8.She sang so softly that it was almost a whisper. It was the 9sound the woman had ever heard, almost like the song of a very small10. After the child stopped singing she explained to the lady, "My mommy used to sing that song to me before she went away, and she made me 11to sing it whenever I started crying and it would make me12." "See," she exclaimed, "it did, and now my eyes are13!" As the woman turned to go, the little girl grabbed her sleeve, "Madam, can you 14a minute? I want to show you something." "Of course," she answered, "what do you want me to see?" Pointing to a spot on her dress, she said, "Right here is where my mommy15 my dress, and here, "pointing to another spot, "and here is another kiss, and here, and here. Mommy said that she put all those kisses on my16 so that I would have her kisses for every booboo (错误) that made me cry." Then the lady realized that she wasn't just looking at a dress, no, she was looking at a17who knew that she was going away and would not be there to kiss away the 18that she knew her daughter would get. So she took all the love she had for her beautiful little girl and put them into this dress that her child now so proudly19. She no longer saw a little girl in a 20dress. She saw a child wrapped…in her mother's love.

After a long day at school, I walked home with my heavy schoolbag. Sleepy and1, I threw my things on the sofa and picked something from the2to eat. I passed by the living room and wished I could watch TV, but I knew my3would take me the whole night. I took my schoolbag and went4to my room. I tried to understand chemistry and5sleepiness at the same time. I tried to keep my eyes6and I wanted something to cheer me up.
Later, I7the sound of the front door opening. And I waited for it—the sound of my mom singing. Though she sang off-key(跑调), 8 made me excited that she was here. I ran down to9my mom. We hugged each other and talked for a while. I like it when my mom was happy. Her10seemed to flow down to me and I got the strength to11the stress (压力) again.
Sometimes, I wonder how my mom can still be12after coming back from work. Every weekday, she wakes up13in the morning to go to work and spends all hour on the bus before getting downtown. At a14factory, she works standing for the whole day and draws patterns(图案) for clothes over and over. After work, my mom at times gets stuck(被困) in15for two hours on her way back home. When I16my school life with her work life, I should not be the one to17. At least I have some interesting things to do at school, but one mistake at work can cost my mom her job. I18that my mom has a positive (积极的) attitude and lives her life with a joyous heart, which encourages me to do my work well,19there may be difficulties. Seeing her happy makes me feel20, too.

Do you remember last summer, when angry travelers were urging the government to do something about airline customer service? Airlines 1 to improve, and they adopted (采用) new standards just before Christmas. 2 as another summer nears, plenty of 3 travelers don’t see much improvement in customer 4 overall.
This month, the Department of Transportation’s (DOT) office will publish its first critical 5 on whether airlines are 6 their promises. One survey suggests problems: the number of 7 to the DOT about the top 10 airlines in the first 8 rose 89% from a year ago .
Hit last summer by passenger complaints and the threat (威慑) of consumer-protection laws by the 9, 14 airlines 10 to adopt a set of basic customer-service standards called Customers First . The “12 promises” to passengers were introduced 11
Recently, DOT inspector general Kenneth Mead, at McCain’s request, sent 20 examiners to airports to 12 whether each airline is doing what it promised. Mead warns travelers shouldn’t 13 too much. Most of the promises are 14 better communication with customers , not problems with flights .
“Passengers should show more understanding to airlines about their 15 to better air service.” Spokeswoman Shelly Sassoon says. “And when 16 are made, it takes a long time for them to be noticed,” she says.
Now, the efforts may be working. During the first quarter, Delta had the second-lowest rate of complaints among the 17 10 carriers. 18, its rate, along with other carriers’, is up from last year. McCain and other lawmakers say there may be a 19 to pass new consumer-protection 20.

A Love Note To My Mom
When I was a little girl, I would often follow you as you modeled (做模特) for fashion magazine. It was years later that I finally understood what role modeling1in your life. I know little that you were2every penny you earned to go to3school.
I cannot thank you enough for4you told me one autumn afternoon when I was nine. After finishing my homework, I wandered into the dining room where you were buried5piles of law books. I was6.Why were you doing what I do—memorizing textbooks and studying for7? When you said you were in law school, I was more puzzled. I didn’t know Moms8be lawyers too. You smiled and said,“In life, you can do anything you want to do.”
Though I was young, your words kept9in my ears. I watched as you faced the10of completing your studies, starting companies with Dad, while still being a11and a Mom of five kids. I was tired just watching you12. With your wise words in my13 mind, I suddenly felt free to dream. My whole world14. I set out to live my life filled with15, seeing endless possibilities for personal achievements.
Your words became my motto. I16found myself in the position of being either the first (woman doctor in Maryland Rotary) 17one of the few women (top medical reporters) in my field. I gained strength every time I said , “Yes, I’ll try that.”
Encouraged by your18, I have forged ahead (毅然前行) with my life’s journey, less afraid to make mistakes, and19meeting each challenge. You did it, and now I’m20it. Sorry, got to run. So much to do, so many dreams to live.
