The main purpose of newspapers are to provide news. If you examine newspapers closely, you would find there are all sort of news: accidents, floods, fires, wars, sports, books, etc. The news cover everything that happens to people and its surroundings. Sometimes there is some news which is very interested. A news report is usual short, except when it is very important, but has a plenty of information. It is also written in shorter paragraphs. The first paragraph is in fact a summary of news. It gives all the necessary information, what, when, where, how, and why.

Last week I went to visit to my former neighbor, Mr. Li. He and I used to living next to each other for many years. About half a year ago, an order came which the old building, along with many other similar ones, were going to be pulled down to make room for a main street. So I had to move apart. Mr. Li now lives in the suburbs near a beautiful park. His new apartment is much big than before. The only problem is that it took quite a long time to get to the downtown area. Therefore, Mr. Li doesn’t seem to worry about the long distance. He says that new subway line is to be built in a few year and he is sure life will be better in the future.

Last Sunday I am about to leave the Green Lake Park when I met a foreign visitor whose seemed to be lost. I tried to help him but I found we had difficulty in understand each other because of my poor English. Just at that moment, tall young lady came to our help. He spoke very good English. With her help, the foreign visitor finally found the way but I learned some English as well. Before he left, the foreigner thanked to us for our kindness. I was very exciting that day. This experience have made me realize that English is real useful and worth learning. I will work hard at it from now on.

Some students believe that whether they have much money or large possessions, they will be happy. They believe that they will be able to do anything they wanted to do if they have money. Some students think that they should be good health, and enjoy whatever they like. Many students wish to have much wealth from their parents. In this way, they don’t have to work hardly and they can own everything. I don’t quite agree on the above points. I don’t think money means happy.
