The Sioux Indians (印第安人) lived near the plains (平原). They hunted buffaloes (水牛). But they didn't go far. They had no horses. They lived in this way for many years.
There were no horses in this country until 1519. Then the soldiers came from Spain (西班牙) and brought horses with them. Some of the horses were lost : They became wild (野的).
About 1600, the Sioux found some of the wild horses. They thought the horses were big dogs. The Indians soon learned how wonderful the“big dogs” were. On horses, the Sioux could follow the buffaloes for many miles. Now the Sioux did not have to stay in one place.
