A little mouse thought he was the tallest and strongest animal in the world. His mother said to him, “Don’t say you are the strongest in front of an elephant. He doesn’t like that.”

The little mouse didn’t listen to his mother. He went out to look for the elephant, but he did not know who was the elephant. He met an ant(蚂蚁). He asked her, “Are you an elephant?” “No, I’m not,” said the ant.

Then the little mouse met a rabbit(兔子). He asked her, “Are you an elephant? You are bigger than me.” “No, I’m not. An elephant is much bigger,” said the rabbit. The little mouse went on. Suddenly(突然) he saw four big trees. “Aha, let me climb up one of the trees. Then I can see where the elephant is,” said the little mouse. Then he began to climb a tree.

“Get down! Get down!” someone shouted to him. “I’m the elephant. Go and climb that tall tree nearby(附近). Then you can see me.”

“Now, I see. The elephant is the tallest and strongest animal in the world,” said the little mouse at last.
