Taiwan is in the southeast of China. It is the largest island in China. It has an area of 36,000 square kilometers or so and has a population of about 22,000,000. It is rich in natural resources and is famous for its bananas, rice and tea. Over half of the main island is covered with the forest. There are two airports in Taiwan. Its scenery is so beautiful and the weather is so pleasant that a lot of travelers come for a visit. Riyuetan and Ali Mountain are very famous places of interest(名胜). Taibei City, the capital of Taiwan Province, is in the north of the island. It is the largest city on the island.

  Taiwan has been a part of China since ancient times. There is only one China and Taiwan is part of China. Most people on the island come from Fujian and Guangdong. Now, many Taiwan people come to the mainland（大陆) to build factories and do business. The people on both sides of the straits(海峡) have a strong wish to unite our motherland.
